Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated early-career Mechanical Engineer (or soon-to-be graduate) to join our product development team in a contract-to-hire role. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a strong foundation in product design and engineering within the outdoor industry.
You will work directly with and be mentored by NEMO’s Chief Engineer, gaining hands-on experience across the full product development lifecycle—from concept through production. This role is ideal for someone who is curious, detail-oriented, and excited to learn in a fast-paced, design-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and development of outdoor equipment and soft goods products
- Assist in creating CAD models, assemblies, and technical drawings
- Build and test prototypes, including hands-on fabrication and iteration
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, sourcing, product management)
- Participate in product testing, validation, and failure analysis
- Document design changes, test results, and engineering decisions
- Support manufacturing partners with technical communication and problem-solving
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and tools

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (completed or expected soon)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Basic proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
- Understanding of engineering fundamentals (mechanics, materials, manufacturing)
- Willingness to learn, take feedback, and grow quickly
Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, fabrication, or maker tools
- Internship, co-op, or project experience in product design or development
- Interest in outdoor gear, adventure, or recreational products
- Familiarity with soft goods, textiles, or lightweight structures
- Experience with testing, validation, or data analysis
