What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Health Safety Specialist position at Nemak?
The EHS Specialist assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining EHS programs to ensure a safe workplace, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across environmental, occupational health, and safety systems. This role supports day-to-day EHS activities, incident investigation, training, audits, and aligns site practices with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 requirements.
Implement and maintain EHS programs to meet OSHA, EPA, state/local regulations and company standards.
Support development, implementation, and continual improvement of ISO 14001 (Environmental), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety), and ISO 50001 (Energy Management) systems at site level; maintain documentation, procedures, and records to meet certification requirements
Conduct hazard assessments, risk analyses (JSA/JHA), workplace inspections, and environmental compliance inspections; track corrective actions to closure.
Lead incident/near-miss investigations using root-cause analysis (5-why, RCA); develop and follow-up on corrective/preventive actions and lessons learned.
Develop and deliver EHS training programs (new hire, task-specific, emergency response, LOTO, confined space, PPE, hazard communication) and maintain training records.
Manage permit requirements, environmental reporting, waste handling/manifesting, spill prevention/response, stormwater controls, air emissions monitoring, and chemical/hazardous materials programs (SDS, labeling).
Maintain and report EHS metrics and KPIs (recordable incident rate, TRIR/MTI, near-miss rate, corrective action closure, environmental non-compliance events, energy intensity).
Provide on-site support for contractor EHS pre-qualification, orientations, and oversight.
Coordinate emergency preparedness and response drills; maintain and update emergency plans and contact lists.
Support ergonomics assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, and health surveillance programs as needed.
Required
Bachelors Degree in OHS or related field
3 years relevant experience in HSE in Manufacturing
Board of Certified Safety Professionals Certification (Desired)
RCRA / DOT Certification
2 years of experience with ISO 14001, 45001, 50001
