Vet Tech Extern

The Vet Tech Extern will learn about and perform various animal husbandry and medical duties alongside the veterinary staff while gaining valuable veterinary-related experience.

Essential Functions:

• Assist with procedures, anesthesia, and medical rechecks.
• Research species we will be doing procedures on.
• Become competent in testing and blood work evaluation.
• Perform laboratory and other diagnostic tests with supervision. Process and bank samples.
• Make sure instruments, equipment, and supplies are maintained, prepared for use, and stocked.
• Participate in additional hands-on and research question training.
• Complete general housekeeping tasks and follow opening and closing checklists. • Assist with setting up for and cleaning up after procedures

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain professionalism in attitude and appearance on the telephone and in person with staff and members of the public
• Able and willing to follow all safe animal handling protocols as explained during training
• Able to work well as part of a team, and use good judgment
• Able to learn and follow directions
• Possess a strong personal work ethic and willingness to take initiative on a variety of project

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Candidate must have a high energy level
• In good physical condition.
• Must be able to sit or stand for long hours
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs
