Overview
The Content Marketing & Communications Specialist is responsible for developing compelling written content that tells the university's story and highlights its people. This role works closely with faculty, staff, students, advancement, alumni, and the cabinet to produce press releases, feature stories, marketing collateral, and digital content that support both internal and external marketing initiatives. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer, strong interviewer, and collaborative partner who can also create visually engaging content using Canva and Adobe tools.
Major Responsibilities
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
Content Development & Storytelling
· Write and edit press releases, feature articles, profiles, announcements, and other written communications
· Conduct regular interviews with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to capture stories and subject-matter expertise
· Translate complex academic programs and initiatives into engaging, audience‑appropriate messaging
· Maintain consistent voice, tone, and brand standards across all written materials
Cross‑Department Collaboration
· Partner with academic departments and administrative offices to understand marketing and communication needs
· Serve as a strategic content partner to internal stakeholders, advising on messaging for both internal and external audiences
· Manage multiple content requests while balancing deadlines and priorities
Marketing & Visual Content Creation
· Create supporting marketing materials such as flyers, social media posts, and promotional graphics using creative content tools
· Collaborate with the broader marketing team to ensure visual and written content are aligned
· Adapt content for multiple platforms, including print, web, email, and social media
Market Research & Support
· Conduct market research as assigned to support messaging, campaigns, and enrollment or reputation goals
· Assist with audience research, competitive analysis, and content performance insight
· Apply research findings to improve messaging effectiveness and reach
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field
· 2–5 years of professional writing or marketing experience (higher education experience preferred but not required)
· Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
· Strong interviewing skills and comfort engaging with diverse audiences
· Experience creating marketing content using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite
· Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment
Preferred Requirements
· Experience writing press releases or working with media relations
· Basic understanding of content strategy, branding, and audience segmentation
· Experience working with content calendars
- Experience with Asana (Project Management)
- Familiarity with higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams involving marketing, admissions, and IT.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required during major projects, recruitment cycles, or university events.
