General Statement of Position

Welds a variety of steel products following prescribed methods and using generally predetermined settings. Handles and positions materials in existing fixtures. Follows NELSON GLOBAL PRODUCTS standards, policies and objectives. This position performs all functions of welding, ensuring safety, quality and productivity. Swing shift positions are provided a shift differential in addition to the base rate of pay, for all hours worked.

Essential Job Functions

• Follow NELSON GLOBAL PRODUCTS standards, policies and objectives.
• Performs MIG welding for both stainless and mild steel materials.
• Welds unfamiliar parts using only a full-scale drawing.
• Fabricates directly from drawings, samples, or instructions without supervision.
• Inspects finished product to ensure accuracy.
• Communicates with other departments as necessary.
• Maintains general housekeeping for work area.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required

• Knowledge of weld equipment and ability to adjust and solve problems as needed.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to do basic math, including decimals and percentages.
• Must be able to adjust weld machine as necessary.
• Must be able to work independently.
• Must have basic computer skills.
• Must have working knowledge of common materials.
• Must have general knowledge of pre-determined, routine procedures to include loading and unloading of parts in machines, part inspection, blueprint reading, full scale drawing use and knowledge of inspection tool use.

Education and Experience Required

• High School diploma or GED required
• Welding Certificate or Degree preferred
• At least one year of experience welding. MIG/TIG preferred.
• Must successfully complete a weld test as part of the screening process.

Physical Requirements

• Performing these duties will involve lifting, pulling, or pushing physical objects, standing, stooping and bending, walking and standing for long periods of time.
• Continuous mental and visual attention is required.
• Requires constant alertness and attention to detail.
• Work involves likelihood of irregularity of work schedule and/or overtime to meet customer demands.
• Working in hot, cold, noisy work areas and exposure to odors, fumes, and dust.
• Lift 1 - 30 lbs. consistently.
• Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Continuous mental and visual attention is required.
• PPE's include safety glasses, ear plugs if required, and steel-toed boots.
