Position Summary
We are seeking a Coating Technician to support the development and production of advanced coated separators used in electric vehicle (EV) battery applications. This role is hands-on and involves working with thin-film materials, coating polymers onto separator films, and performing both chemical and mechanical testing.
The ideal candidate has experience as a technician in a product development, research, or manufacturing environment. Should be comfortable collaborating with scientists, engineers, and other technicians, demonstrate strong manual dexterity and attention to detail, and be eager to learn new technical skills.
Responsibilities
- Operate laboratory equipment to coat polymers onto thin-film separator materials. Training will be provided, with the expectation of independent work once proficient.
- Prepare polymer inks following work instructions (WI), control plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct various quality control tests on coated separator materials using standard laboratory practices (training provided).
- Identify issues as they arise, document them, and collaborate with scientists and engineers to resolve them.
- Assist in developing new build and test procedures using hands-on experience and continuous improvement insights.
- Occasionally cross-train and support additional areas such as general lab operations, prototype battery cell lines, and testing labs as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or experience with coating methods (e.g., slot-die, gravure) is a plus.
- Experience working in a safety-critical environment such as automotive, aerospace, medical devices, or manufacturing.
- Ability to follow SOPs accurately and consistently.
- Strong manual dexterity and high attention to detail.
- Ability to work fully on-site.
- Strong alignment with core values around safety, teamwork, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with analytical equipment such as Instron (mechanical testing), Gurley densometer, or UV-Vis spectrophotometer is preferred but not required.
- Prior experience with laboratory chemical handling is preferred but not required.
