Job Title: Special Education Aide (Self-Contained)
Reports to: Campus Principal
Location: In-Person, CASLV Nellis Campus – Las Vegas, NV
Position Type: Full-Time, 10-Month (School Year)
Position Summary
The Special Education Aide (Self-Contained) supports students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting. Under the guidance of a licensed special education teacher, this role provides individualized and small group support, assists with daily routines, and helps implement behavior and academic plans. The aide plays a critical role in supporting students’ access to learning, safety, and well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Support:
- Assist the teacher in implementing IEP goals and classroom activities.
- Provide academic support in small groups or one-on-one.
- Help prepare and adapt instructional materials under teacher direction.
Behavioral Support:
- Implement positive behavior strategies as outlined in student behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
- Use de-escalation techniques and maintain a safe and respectful environment.
- Monitor and document behavior data and communicate relevant information to the teacher.
Daily Care and Assistance:
- Assist students with mobility, feeding, toileting, or hygiene as required by IEPs.
- Supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, and other activities.
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work as part of the IEP team to support individual student needs.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
- Communicate observations and concerns to the teacher or appropriate staff.
Professionalism:
- Attend required training and professional development related to special education and student needs.
- Follow all school policies and procedures, including those related to student safety and care.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must pass background check and health clearance.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks related to student support.
Preferred:
- Experience working with students with disabilities or in self-contained classrooms.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or similar training.
- Bilingual is a plus.
