Nékter Juice Bar Napa is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager who doesn't need to be told what to do — you see it, you own it, you fix it. If you've run a food service operation before and you're looking for a role where you actually have authority and accountability, this is it.
This is NOT a shift lead with a fancy title — this is a real management position where you run the store.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
✅ 2 years food service MANAGEMENT experience REQUIRED
✅ Proven experience managing teams of 5-10 people
✅ Current California Food Handler's Certificate (ServSafe preferred)
✅ Demonstrated knowledge of:
- Labor cost management and scheduling optimization
- FIFO inventory management and ordering systems
- Food safety, temperature control & health department compliance
- California meal and rest break compliance
- Progressive discipline and employee documentation
- POS systems, daily reporting, and cash handling
ESSENTIAL SKILLS WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
- Accountability: Hold employees to the standard in real time — not after the fact, not through someone else
- Operational Awareness: Walk into a store and immediately see what's wrong — dirty station, empty fridge, slow service, employee on their phone. Then fix it.
- Financial Literacy: Understand labor cost %, daily sales targets, COGS, and how your decisions impact profitability
- Inventory Management: Track pars, flag reorders before we run out, receive and verify deliveries, enforce FIFO
- Composure Under Pressure: Handle a lunch rush, a customer complaint, and a callout all at the same time without breaking
- Training & Development: Take a brand-new hire and turn them into a reliable team member within 2 weeks
YOUR DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Run the store day-to-day when ownership is not on-site — you are the highest authority in the building
- Manage shift flow: assign station vs. support roles, monitor speed and accuracy, adjust in real time
- Conduct daily walk-throughs: cleanliness, stocking levels, deli fridge minimums, team performance
- Train and onboard new hires: menu knowledge, recipes, portion control, POS, service standards, safety
- Monitor and enforce portion control — over-portioning is a profit killer and you catch it immediately
- Ensure California meal and rest break compliance on every shift — missed breaks cost $20-25/hr in penalties
- Build and review weekly schedules using 7Shifts: flag coverage gaps, overtime risk, availability conflicts
- Monitor daily sales and labor costs — if labor is running high relative to sales, you recognize it and act
- Handle customer complaints and escalations — resolve them before they become Google reviews
- Issue verbal warnings and document performance issues — written warnings with owner approval
- Daily communication with ownership: morning check-ins, end-of-day reports, immediate escalation of incidents
- Manage inventory: daily stock checks, coordinate with Sysco/Restaurant Depot ordering, receive deliveries
- Ensure opening and closing checklists are completed fully — every shift, every day

MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
✓ Minimum 2 years food service management experience (not just shift lead)
✓ Experience with scheduling, labor management, and P&L awareness
✓ Expert knowledge of FIFO, food safety, and health code compliance
✓ Comfortable with confrontation — you will have hard conversations with employees
✓ Weekend availability REQUIRED (Friday, Saturday, Sunday are our busiest days)
✓ Open availability strongly preferred (store hours: 8 AM - 6 PM)
✓ Food Handler's Certificate (ServSafe Manager certification a plus)
✓ Experience with 7Shifts, Toast, Qu, or similar POS/scheduling platforms
✓ Reliable. On time. Every shift. No exceptions.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
- 30-40 hours per week
- Must include weekends — Friday, Saturday, Sunday are non-negotiable
- Opening shifts start at 7 AM, closing shifts end at 6:30 PM
- Must be available for schedule adjustments based on business needs
- This is a leadership role — you don't get to cherry-pick shifts
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
You will be measured on:
- Store cleanliness and condition (including unannounced inspections)
- Team compliance with all policies (breaks, phones, uniforms, closing standards)
- Inventory accuracy — no running out of core items on your watch
- Labor cost management (target: 28-30% of sales)
- Waste percentage (target: under 2%)
- Customer satisfaction and complaint resolution
- New hire training effectiveness (productive within 2 weeks)
- Daily communication consistency (check-ins without reminders)
- Employee retention and team morale on your shifts
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Stand/walk for 8-hour shifts
- Lift up to 30 pounds repeatedly
- Work in refrigerated areas
- Fast-paced movement and multitasking
- Reliable transportation (early morning and weekend shifts)
WORKING INTERVIEW PROCESS:
Selected candidates will complete a paid working interview where you'll demonstrate:
- How you run a shift — team management, delegation, prioritization
- Produce quality assessment and FIFO knowledge
- How you handle a mock customer complaint
- How you'd correct an underperforming employee
- Speed, efficiency, and operational awareness
