Position Summary:
This position provides direct oversight, monitoring, and supervision to the Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Classroom Paras and Nutrition Providers. Work involves center program planning, schedule, and design, coordinating staff and program development for maximum service delivery effectiveness and continuous improvement. Providing technical assistance and appropriate training to Head Start staff. This position is responsible for the daily leadership; supervision; training; monitoring and positive modeling of best practices ongoing with professional communication for center staff and volunteers while maintaining and supporting the Head Start Program Performance Standards, all state Childcare licensing requirements, NEK-CAP Inc. Policies and Procedures, Head Start Act, and the Agency Employee Handbook at your site. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the center and responsible for delegation of duties and will conduct regular Staff/Team meetings and schedule work hours and leave for all staff. This position maintains that classrooms are an organized series of experiences providing quality and developmentally appropriate services designed to meet the needs of all participating children and families. In this position you will be responsible for the facility and keeping it maintained. You will provide direct supervision and oversight of all classroom and nutrition staff at your site. This position is directly responsible for maintaining adult-child ratio in the classroom. You will be responsible for developing a work schedule, monitoring, and approving their work and leave hours and approving/denying leave requests per staffing. If short staffed this person will be required to be in the classroom as needed to provide teaching and support to the classroom staff. This position is responsible for providing families resources, assisting with goal setting, and offering a respectful family centered approach to case management. This position is responsible for Family Engagement Activities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Education Manager, and reviewed through regular supervision, reports, and program achievements.
Knowledge and Experience: Essential
Meal Count & Attendance. Ensure completed at every meal service.
Be available as the First Line of communication within your center.
Daily cleaning and maintaining individual work area.
Learning Genie: Pictures. Happenings, funny kid-quotes, etc.…Reminders for in-kind, Helpful hints, Classroom activities, Extension activities, Homework activities, In-kind tutorials, Virtual Field Trips.
Complete application process with families for the EHS/HS programs.
Recruit new families and maintain a waiting list.
Complete orientation paperwork with each family within specified timeframes.
Build respectful, culturally responsive, and trusting relationships with families maintaining a working relationship to assist with family progress.
Documentation and Case Notes are essential. Data entry is to be entered by ALL staff members and should be entered on a regular basis. This includes home visits, contacts, and family information, to include all PIR data.
Run the Program Information Report and audit within specified timeframes.
Assist parents with referrals and follow through on getting all Health, Dental, and Mental Health appointments completed and documented appropriately.
Report any suspected child/adult abuse or neglect to appropriate authority.
Maintain and assure confidentiality and privacy of NEK-CAP, Inc. And our customers.
Assist in classrooms when short staffed.
Ensure adult to child ratio is maintained. 1-10.
Scan Sign in/Out sheets to SharePoint weekly. Print the next week's Sign In/Out sheets for the staff and for the Bus Routes.
Meal Count Attendance-hard copy, and Detailed Meal Report are uploaded to SharePoint/County folder/Attendance and Meal Count. Check they are complete, and the report matches.
Lesson Plans are monitored to review they are used to fidelity with individualization to children's needs and observation by all staff are entered into the Child Assessment database.
Facilitate Staff/Team meeting & Staffing report. Promote staff team-building activities.
Monitor daily classroom and playground checks are completed.
Create a schedule for and assist with daily/weekly cleaning at your site.
Conduct Growth Assessments, BP, OAE and Vision screenings, utilizing the required equipment.
Conduct Family Engagement Activities and parent committee meetings.
Knowledge of the Kansas EPSDT and Immunization schedule.
Coordination between families and community partners.
Coordinate internal processes- such as the Family Team Support Plan and Meetings, Individualized Plans, etc.
Advocate for NEK-CAP, Inc. in the community- this may include attending public or community meetings and/or public speaking.
Understand and collaborate to maintain full Policy Council representation.
Complete the monthly sections on the Fire Marshal paperwork after Fire and Tornado drills are held. Including 2 annual bus Evacuations.
Check fire extinguishers and other safety equipment (smoke/CO2 alarms, emergency lights, exit lights)
Order supplies needed through Education Manager and the purchase order system.
Print any certificates and training information and place in Employee licensing files.
Collect & Prepare In-Kind (scan for your records), send hard copies in mailer to CO. Work with all staff to meet the non-federal share and to generate and document contributions.
Assist before classes start with planning bus routes, along with Education Manager.
Monitor transportation services through periodic observation on the route and review transportation forms.
Up-date and maintain Licensing Board/Licensing Binder in preparation for the State Licensing visit. Ensure necessary staff documents are in binders ready for review.
Plan work schedules for all classroom staff and nutrition provider.
Monitor staff's completion of 15 hours of training annually, including 15 hours of Early Childhood training for all classroom staff and reporting to the Education Manager.
Ensure site specific Emergency Response Plans are completed/up-dated annually (in coordination with the Health and Safety Manager).
Ensure Safety Data Sheets are accessible for all the products used at the center.
Ensure Active Supervision is occurring during times the children are present in the classroom, playground, and on field trips, Family Engagement Activities. Ensure all staff understand Active Supervision.
Ensure Mental Health Observations from your Local Agency is happening, and appropriate paperwork is completed, and data entered in Cap 60.
Contact the Mental Health/Disabilities Manager as needed for any concerns related to behavior, ASQ (Ages & Stages Questionnaires), or speech screenings.
Coordinate with Health and Safety Manager, CACFP/Nutrition Manager, and caregivers to ensure Individual Health Plan/Meal Modification Plans and Individual Health Plans are complete and approved, reviewed by center staff. Work closely with all Managers, staff and community agencies as needed to ensure coordination of services that are needed for individual children and families.
Review all children's Orientation paperwork including Health Assessments and immunization records, IHP (Individual Health Plan) and INHP (Individual Nutrition Health Plan), contact and release form, prior to them entering the center. Ensure all Classroom staff review the paperwork,

Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred or related degree with at least 18 credit hours in Early Childhood Education required. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Obtain Driver Improvement/AAA certification and First Aid and CPR certification and keep current, attend training in child abuse and neglect, blood borne pathogens upon hire. Successfully complete and pass a physical exam, TB skin test and drug screen before beginning employment. Submit to and pass criminal background/history check in compliance with State of Kansas Child Care Licensing. Possess current valid state driver's license and personal automobile insurance and present upon hire and have reliable transportation. Center Director Approval Certificate from KDHE after hire, if not already done.
