Neil H. Daniels, Inc. a 100% Employee Owned Company is a dynamic, full-service contractor with expertise in bridge construction, earth moving, site work, concrete formwork and installation, steel fabrication and sales across the commercial and municipal sectors. We are actively seeking a Superintendent for our Ascutney, VT location to lead, oversee and coordinate all aspects of heavy commercial and municipal construction projects, ensuring efficiency, and team performance, at the same time fostering a positive workplace environment. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to effectively plan, prioritize, and direct work while supporting employee development and project success.

Job Summary:

The Superintendent plans, directs, and oversees all onsite construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget and in accordance with contract requirements and quality standards. Serving as the primary field leader, this position coordinates employees, subcontractors, equipment, materials and project resources while maintaining a strong safety culture, productivity, craftsmanship and regulatory compliance, throughout every phase of civil and municipal construction.

• Demonstrates a positive, dependable, professional and respectful attitude.
• Lead by example by promoting a culture where safety is the highest priority and ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and MUTCD requirements, Company safety policies, environmental guidelines, and industry best practices.
• Identify and address hazards, and promptly report injuries, accidents, property damage and safety concerns.
• Lead, supervise, mentor and develop field personnel while fostering teamwork, communication and continuous improvement.
• Establish clear expectations, delegate responsibilities, and provide coaching and recognition to support employee growth and development.
• Plan, coordinate, and direct, daily construction operations to complete projects safely, on schedule, within budget and to high-quality standards.
• Coordinate labor, subcontractors, equipment, materials, deliveries, and other project resources to maximize productivity.
• Monitor project progress, ensure all work complies with contract documents, plans, specifications, and any applicable regulations.
• Maintain high standards of professionalism and represent the Company positively in interactions with clients, subcontractors, inspectors, and the public.
• Complete and submit accurate daily timesheets, work reports, subcontractor information, material documentation and signed change order forms.
• Oversee the safe and proper use, operation and maintenance of hand tools, vehicles, and light, medium, and heavy-duty construction equipment, to include performing routine preventative maintenance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned, including operating equipment, driving Company vehicles, or assisting with manual labor as the project demands. Travel to remote out-of-town project locations as required.
• Physical requirements such as frequent twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting (up to 80 lbs.), carrying, grasping, handling, climbing, reaching, and balancing.

Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with additional education or training in heavy construction is preferred. A minimum of seven (7) years of related construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required. Experience supervising heavy civil and municipal construction projects involving bridges, highways, utilities, earthwork, concrete or related infrastructure is preferred.

• Communicate effectively with co-workers, subordinates, subcontractors, clients and the public through strong verbal and written communication.
• Ability to read, interpret and apply construction plans, blueprints, specifications, schedules and contract documents.
• Thorough knowledge of heavy civil and municipal construction methods, equipment, materials and construction practices.

Supervision

Reporting to the President, Vice President or Project Manager, the Superintendent will complete tasks as directed. The Project Manager will prioritize daily work assignments and provide general guidance or scope of work and requirements.

Licensing & Certifications

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license – CDL-A or B preferred, (but not required)

OSHA 10 or 30 – preferred, (but not required) – education and training provided

Total Station experience – preferred, (but not required) – education and training provided

Typical Work Surfaces

There are a variety of rough, uneven, sloped terrain and surfaces such as wood, tile, soil, aggregate, asphalt, concrete, steel, water, snow and ice.

Typical Work Environment

Outside in various weather 90% Inside 10%

Typical Occupational Exposures

The employee may have exposure to mechanical chemicals such as grease, oil, diesel fuel, gasoline, aquatic chemicals and turf fertilizers. Dust generated from various processes such as drilling, jackhammering, blasting, excavation, loading/unloading trucks, water and sewer effluent. The employee may encounter contact with insects, domestic/wild animals, and all-weather conditions associated with the New England region.
