Responsibilities
- Perform dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment while ensuring patient safety
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions
- Assist the dentist during procedures with chairside assisting, including handing instruments and managing dental equipment
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems like Open Dental or Dentrix), documenting treatment details thoroughly
- Follow infection prevention protocols, including aseptic technique and infection control measures to ensure patient safety
- Manage medical records with confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Monitor and operate dental equipment efficiently, ensuring all tools are sterilized and functioning correctly
- Support pediatric dentistry procedures when working with young patients in a friendly, approachable manner
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice in your region
- Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings, with familiarity using Eaglesoft or Dentrix preferred
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and anatomy relevant to oral health care
- Skilled in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting and X-ray procedures
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control standards, including aseptic technique and HIPAA compliance
- Excellent communication skills for client education and team collaboration
- Ability to review documentation accurately and manage electronic health records efficiently
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems in a fast-paced dental environment is highly desirable
