Job Purpose: The Facilities Assistant is responsible for the maintenance and care of buildings and mechanical systems owned and/or operated by the Neighborhood Center of West Volusia. The ability to stand for long periods (up to 8 hours per day), bend, and lift up to 50lbs unassisted or 100lbs assisted is required, and the Assistant must also be able to move, carry, lift, load, and unload heavy items while transporting them up and down stairs.
This position demonstrates respect and integrity to the clients who are served by the agency, the service vendors with whom the Facilities department partners, and to fellow staff and volunteers with whom they may be working.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Receives and promptly completes facilities maintenance tasks, including but not limited to: air conditioning cleaning and filter replacement, minor electrical repairs, disposing materials, flooring replacement, landscaping, laundry appliance repair and maintenance, painting, structural repairs (hanging wall or light fixtures, repairing or building ramps, installing a new deck, etc.), and tree trimming/removal.
- Periodically review the contents of agency-owned storage sheds, removing damaged items and keeping a detailed log of contents in each one.
- As directed, schedule skills-based vendors for service and assist them with completion of the service where appropriate.
- Familiarizes themselves with professional and residential facilities and takes proactive initiative to perform ongoing maintenance without explicit assignment.
- Communicates openly with the Facilities Director and Chief Operating Officer regarding safety and/or financial risks observed or suspected and collaborate creatively to address them.
