About the Position
As a senior-level Electrical System Studies Engineer in the Renewables studies group, you will be responsible for performing electrical power system modeling and analysis primarily for renewable facilities that encompass support of solar, wind, battery storage generation projects and substation design projects. You will be providing the client with a quality deliverable that is on time and within budget while guiding other Team Members through the process.
Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 / year
The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.
This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) and full-time remote candidates.
Essential Responsibilities
- Conducts electrical studies primarily for renewable facilities that encompass the substation and collection system in support of the solar, wind, BESS and substation design teams
- Creates and develops studies and reports including but not limited to short circuit, reactive power/load flow, arc flash, protection coordination, dynamic, transient, harmonic (pre & post), interconnection compliance, ampacity, grounding, as well as other related studies and calculations
- Conduct reviews and QA/QC for electrical studies in support of renewable studies team members and design teams
- Serve as a client facing project lead for renewable system studies scope.
- Establish study templates, methodologies, and best practices for electrical system studies for renewable projects
- Serve as an SME for at least one study software, providing software and associated studies. Support team members with software related questions and troubleshooting
- Provide regulatory compliance services for all project design phases from conceptual design through project testing and commission
- May occasionally assist with performing equipment, control system, communications,
troubleshooting, and relay field testing and start-up and commissioning services - Maintains a strong understanding and applications of applicable Codes and Standards
- Maintains strong and responsive Company-Client relationships
- Maintains high ethical and professional standards
- Attends conferences, training workshops, seminars, regular undergraduate, and
graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of
work. - Attend safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines
- Other job-related responsibilities as assigned
- Secondary responsibilities may include checking and/or performing detailed design of all
aspects of electrical power systems to include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams,
control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, conduit, and cable
sizing/routing, grounding design, writing of equipment specifications, project and
construction cost estimates, and project scheduling
Must Have
- Education: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution, electric power option preferred
- Experience: 5 years of relevant engineering or field experience
- Licensure: FE is required, PE is preferred
- Proficiency in power system modeling software such as:
- Steady State software: (Required: PowerFactory, ETAP. Nice to Have: Easypower, SKM Power Tools, Aspen, Windmil)
- System Protection & Arc Flash software: (Required: ETAP or Easy Power. Nice to have: CAPE, Aspen, SKM Power Tools;)
- Grounding software: (CDEGS; WinIGS)
- Interconnection & Dynamic Modeling: (PSSe, PSLF)
- Cable Ampacity software: (Cymcap)
- Transient Studies software: (PSCAD)
- Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
- Good interpersonal and people skills
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
