POSITION OVERVIEW
The Associate Merchant supports the Director of Merchandising to develop and execute product assortment strategies that drive financial performance and align with brand objectives. This role requires balancing sales data, market trends, and customer insights to build commercially successful product lines. Working cross-functionally with Planning, Design, Production, E-Com and other teams, the Associate Merchant analyzes in-season performance, identifies opportunities, and mitigates risks to deliver both revenue and profit growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the development of seasonal assortments for specific categories that meet financial targets, customer needs, and market demands in collaboration with cross-functional partners
- Manage daily operational tasks such as line list maintenance, product hierarchy, pricing updates, and timeline tracking
- Conduct competitive analysis to track competitor assortments, pricing strategies, promotions, and new product launches and own the distribution of this information
- Create cross-functional materials for key product launches with compelling narratives to drive alignment
- Monitor sales performance of specific categories and identify trends to uncover growth opportunities, manage risks, and optimize key metrics including productivity, margin, and sell-through
- Coordinate with Marketing, Styling, and Web teams to ensure seamless product launches that support merchandising goals and sales plans and identify key items monthly
- Optimize in-season performance through markdown management and inventory oversight to maximize sales and minimize excess stock for specific categories
- Partner on creation of design roadmaps that articulate innovation needs and provide clear guidance on carryover products
- Stay abreast of return rates, customer reviews, and customer feedback to identify quality, sizing or website issues and react accordingly
- Review liable raw material inventory quarterly and present plans on how to use the fabric
- Project manage the quarterly naming process for new launch styles
- Ensure Marketing accurately showcases products with emphasis on key items and strategic priorities by reviewing PDPs for accuracy and strength
- Drive execution of cross-functional action items including price changes, product discontinuations, and website updates
- Review product details and attend fittings as needed to verify design integrity and commercial viability
- Advise on in-cart add-on products by analyzing web metrics and sales data
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5 years of product merchandising experience with proven success managing a product category
- Strong analytical abilities with expertise in translating data into strategic action
- Deep understanding of brand positioning, customer behavior, and fashion trends
- Proven ability to build effective cross-functional relationships and collaborate across teams
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Highly organized, self-directed, and skilled at balancing strategy with execution in a fast-paced environment.
