What are the responsibilities and job description for the Groundskeeper position at Neenah Joint School District?
The Neenah Joint School District is accepting applications for two full-time (1.0 FTE) Groundskeeper positions. The ideal candidates will be available to start immediately.
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities, operates tractors, trucks and grounds equipment for grass cutting, snow removal, tree trimming, fence repair and general grounds maintenance at all District facilities. Clean, repair, and provide preventative maintenance on all District equipment and vehicles. Serves as a substitute for daytime operations (custodian) positions throughout the District. Complete equipment and supply deliveries to district owned buildings.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Operate tractors, trucks, and grounds equipment for lawn maintenance, snow removal, tree trimming, fence repair and general grounds maintenance of all District facilities.
- Perform seasonal changeover of equipment and preventative maintenance on grounds equipment.
- Assist with the preparation of the athletics fields at Neenah Middle School and High School.
- Serve as a substitute building custodian, as needed. Work includes cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and other areas of District buildings.
- Manage and complete work orders as assigned
- Serve as a substitute driver for district deliveries and food service delivery
- Maintain and repair playground equipment and surfaces
- Serve as part of the District snow removal crew. Work includes mandatory early-morning and weekend work to meet the needs of the District.
- Assist District District staff, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and/or Supervisor of Operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff, coaches, administrators, students, and the general public; and to work cooperatively with the operations and maintenance staff to assure facilities are clean, safe, properly maintained and secure.
- Must be a highly motivated and positive individual willing to take direction, work with minimal supervision, anticipate building and District needs, and make independent decisions leading to solutions of problems.
- Ability to operate commercial lawn mowers and tractors, medium-size trucks, snow plow equipment, chain saws, post hole diggers, edgers, weed eaters, welding equipment, and other power and hand tools.
- Ability to become familiar with the basic mechanical system operations within all school buildings.
- Knowledge of proper techniques of pruning, use of fertilizers and chemicals for ground care.
- Knowledge of outdoor athletic field layouts and the preparation of facilities for practices and events is a plus.
- Ability to create and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for District equipment and vehicles.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, welders, etc.
- Ability to work from high scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
- Physical fitness and stamina to be able to lift 50 pounds, move furniture, operate machinery, shovel snow, etc.
- Willingness to work scheduled overtime to meet District needs.
- Willingness to attend workshops and/or seminars to enhance job knowledge and skill level.
- Initiative in all areas of performance responsibilities.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from high school is required.
- Related work experience and/or associate degree or additional maintenance training preferred.
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
HOURS OF WORK:
- 8 hours/day from 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (includes 30-minute unpaid lunch).
- Vacation shall comply with Employee Policy Manual.

Pay: $21.36 - $26.98 per hour
