Description:

Mativ's Paper Division is seeking a Process Improvement Engineer to join its dynamic team at the Whiting Mill. As a member of the flagship mill withinthe division,your experience and effortwillmake animmediateimpact.This positionisbasedon siteinStevens Point, WIand is a key member ofthe Operations teamreporting to theOperationalExcellenceRegional Lead.

Thesuccessful candidate willtake the ownership and initiative todrivemeasurableimprovement in safety,quality,productivity,costand peoplefor the facilitybyworking collaborativelywithinOperations and other functions to deliver on business metrics and goals.

The ideal candidate hasacan-do attitudetobreak down barriers insupportofMativ'shigh achievement,resultsorientedculture. The successful candidate will be required to work on site at the Whiting Mill in Stevens Point, WI.

Responsibilities:

  • Activelyseekdaily,proactivesafety interaction withemployees and incorporatesafety intoroutine and non-routineactivities.
  • Provide support toprojectsthat focus onenhancing oursafetysystems.
  • Support HOP and Just Culture through learning team participation.
  • In all process improvements / changes, consider from the perspective of the worker & seek solutions with highest level of control hierarchy.

  • Be the primary,site driver for ourOpEx/EDGE framework:
  • Daily Direction Setting (DDS) andDaily Layered Accountability (DLA)
  • Optimizingorganized,cross-functionalteam structures to promote great execution daily.
  • Provide organizational enhancements to support daily, digitaldashboarding
  • Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and People.
  • Tiered Escalation andMission Control
  • Support operations withtimelyupdatesofleading and lagging performance metricstoenabledecision makingand problem solving.

  • Lead and coach problem solving:
  • Be an expert in defining problems,utilizingformalmethodologiesand engaging othersin the process ofsolvingproblems.

  • Lead Process Improvementprojects:
  • Team-basedevents that follow the A3methodologyor Kaizen framework.
  • Regularly update project documentation and be able to speak to progress and/or barriers.

  • Processcontrol&automation:
  • Leveragethemill'sDCS, QCSand plant information systemsto provide engineered solutions vs administrative solutions to routine problems.
  • Identifyoptimizationsuch asloop tuning& grade changeimprovementwith ProcessControlEngineerandE&I.

  • Businessintelligence anddataanalytics:
  • Champion for operationaldata integrity and performance metrics (WorkOrderVariances, Rates of Operation,ERPtransactions).
  • Become proficient in displaying / dashboarding datathat itmay be used forreal timedecision makingon the operating floor.
  • Analyze trends and patterns in data to quantify either opportunities or improvements made.

  • Furtherourevolution from a system of knowledge to a system of process:
  • Identifyopportunities by mapping out knowledge-based gapsthen delivering withsolutions.
  • Define decision points, propertriggersandappropriate responsesfor more predictable outcomes.
  • Collaboratewithour talented workforcetounderstand the best-known waysand create standard work.
  • Complete cost optimization projects:
  • Takeinitiative to implement organicproduct and processsolutionsor drive CAPEXsolutionswith quantifiable improvements.
  • Update documentation monthly to quantify project and cumulative savings.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree inpulp and paper science,chemicalorindustrialengineering,orarelatedfield withfiveplusyears' experienceofdemonstratedprocess troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Experienceapplying formal process improvement methodologies (such as Lean or Six Sigma)in a process-oriented manufacturing environment.
  • Experience implementingVisualManagement.
  • A demonstratedtrack recordof proven performance and ability to manage projects and lead teams at all organizational levels.
  • Has a high degree of professionalism withhigh standardsin quality of work.
  • Experience leading teams to solve complex problems.
  • Solid business acumen.
  • Strong group facilitationwith clear communicationand presentation skills.
  • Enjoysworking and collaborating with members ofcross-functionalgroups outside of operations such asmarketing,customerserviceand supplychain.
  • Strong computer skills includinga workingknowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to multi-taskand pivot quicklyin a fast-paced production setting.
  • Must be able to wearrequiredPPE whenneeded, and travel through the facility to perform tasks in areas that are hot and humid.

Preferred

  • Desired software experience: Oracle, MS Project, Power BI, Minitab or other statistical software
  • Preferred Certifications: Third party certification in Lean or Six Sigma

COMPETENCIES:

  • Exercise strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain concepts to a varied audience when required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
