Job Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate will plan and teach multiple sections of high school school Biology as well as work collaboratively with the high school department chair, and members of the high school science department to support student learning and growth.

  • Develops and administers Biology and/or elective science curriculum to grade 9 students consistent with state standards, school district goals, and learning objectives
  • Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of Science Practices and Skills with a focus on Biology content, methods, and principles of effective high school instruction.
  • Plan and execute appropriate instructional and learning strategies. These activities, materials, and assignments will be expected to reflect a deep understanding of the needs (academic,social/emotional, and culturally-informed) of students.
  • Use student level data to inform instruction and plan effective lessons/interventions for students.
  • Promotes the learning and growth of all students through instructional practices that establish high expectations, create a safe and effective classroom environment, and demonstrate cultural proficiency.
  • Fosters the learning and growth of all students through effective partnerships with families and caregivers.
  • Collaborates effectively with specialists, instructional coaches, administrators and parents to foster positive social, emotional and academic development for our students.
  • Ensures, through effective collaboration with colleagues (chiefly ESL and Special Education liaisons), that identified strategies that promote the success of all students in the classroom are in place.
  • Works under the general supervision of the building Principal and Science Department Chair, manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement.
  • Provides structure in the classroom by building and maintaining a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed. 

Require Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Biology license at the appropriate level
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with and/or teaching high school students; an understanding of the needs of students at this age
  • Collaborative work ethic
  • Training/experience in the use of instructional technology
  • Commitment to inclusive pedagogy
  • Potential to contribute to student life beyond the classroom

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary is determined by education and experience, ranging from Bachelor’s (Step 1) $63,217 to Doctorate (Step 14) $133,922 (This range is based on a 1.0 FTE).
