The Nebraska Attorney General's Office is seeking an exceptional litigator to serve as Chief of its Civil Litigation Bureau.
The Nebraska Department of Justice is one of the strongest public interest law offices in the country, handling high-impact civil litigation at the cutting edge of state and federal law. As Bureau Chief, you will lead a talented team of attorneys, set the Bureau's litigation strategy and priorities, and handle some of the Office's most significant and complex matters in state and federal courts, with opportunities for appellate practice.
Examples of Work Performed
- Lead, manage, and mentor the attorneys and staff of the Civil Litigation Bureau, setting litigation priorities and ensuring consistency in the State's legal positions.
- Develop and supervise litigation strategy on the Bureau's most complex, high-profile matters, and serve as lead trial counsel from initiation through resolution and potential appeal.
- Advise the Attorney General and senior leadership on significant civil litigation, emerging legal risks, and matters of statewide importance.
- Conduct performance management and recruit, develop, and retain top legal talent.
- Coordinate cross-bureau efforts with the Solicitor General's Office, Consumer Protection Bureau, Criminal Bureau, and Legal Services Bureau.

Requirements
- Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Nebraska, or clear ability to be licensed in Nebraska by motion.
- Minimum of eight years of civil litigation experience (private firm or government agency), including motions practice, depositions, and state or federal court hearings and trials.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, or team management experience.
- Excellent legal writing skills, strong professional judgment, and the highest standards of integrity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ten or more years of civil litigation and courtroom experience, with prior experience managing attorneys or a legal practice group.
- Subject matter depth in two or more of the practice areas above, including employment law.
