Job Description
The Norfolk Regional Center is a psychiatric hospital that provides inpatient mental health and sex offender treatment for individuals. We aim to give hope and possibilities for a future without more offenses.

Wage: 18.071 plus $3/hour Facility Differential, plus shift differential for hours worked in 2nd shift and on the weekends.
Schedule
Week 1: 4:30am – 1:00pm (8 hour days)
Week 2: 4:30am – 3:00pm (10 hour days)
This schedule will include some weekends and holidays. Days off and hours will be discussed at interview.
What we Offer
Must have basic knowledge of cooking principles to follow menus, recipes and set up procedures.
Must be able to follow food safety and sanitation guideline.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Coursework, training and/or experience in food preparation, baking and/or kitchen operations in the food service industry or related field.
Other: Must be 19 years of age and be able to stand on feet for 4 hours and lift up to 40 pounds. Must be able to work weekends and holidays. This position requires proficiency in English, including the ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the language effectively.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: (These are needed to perform the work assigned.)
Knowledge of: kitchen and dining room safety practices; special diets provided by the facility; recipes and cooking techniques for the preparation of meats, vegetables, soups, salads and baked goods; facility food preparation schedules; food sanitation practices; the proper handling and processing of a variety of vegetables and fruits; kitchen safety practices; kitchen equipment and utensils; facility standards and procedures for the cleaning of dishes, utensils, equipment and facilities; facility specific security and emergency procedures.
Ability to: communicate effectively with facility residents, patients, members, inmates, and co-workers; train lower level food service staff or inmates in all aspects of kitchen and dining room operations; prepare the most complex or difficult recipes; safely use sharp, heavy or hot kitchen equipment, utensils or supplies; understand and enforce rules governing the conduct of inmates; train and supervise in all aspects of kitchen and dining room operations; alter menus to accommodate needs and food stuffs on hand; keep records; follow instructions; tolerate high temperature and high humidity; bend, stoop, lift and carry food items, equipment and supplies.
