Job Description

School Psychologist

Qualifications: EdS or PhD in School Psychology. National Certification (NCSP) Preferred. Must qualify for Nebraska Teaching Certificate in School Psychology.

Length of Contract: The School Psychologist will follow the length of service as outlined in the Negotiated Agreement with an additional 5 Extended Contract Days.

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Special Services

General Job Description: The school psychologist is responsible for fulfilling a broad, expanded role in psychology in schools. This person must have strong consultation skills, data-based decision-making skills, knowledge of behavior and academic interventions, leadership skills, and assessment knowledge.

Specific Job Functions

  • Provides a broad scope of school psychological services that assist families and

professionals in identifying, planning, and referring students with academic, behavioral, or social needs. This includes participation in the Student Assistance Team Process.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings to determine appropriate

educational programs for students who require special education services.

  • Provides consultation and/or coaching to families, teachers, and other staff

regarding individual children's learning problems, learning style, and/or behavior problems. This includes completing FBA's, developing BIP's and safety plans as part of an intervention planning team.

  • Provides consultation and/or coaching to teachers and other staff regarding

classroom learning environment and/or management in general.

  • Conducts individual assessments to help determine children's eligibility for

special education services and determine the child's needs as part of the IFSP/IEP team.

  • Conducts and/or facilitates whole group, small group, or individual interventions

for students with academic, behavioral, or social skill needs.

  • Provides support and/or education for families.
  • Serves as liaison between the school district and community agencies.
  • Conduct in-service training for other professionals and parents when needed.
  • Participates regularly in opportunities for professional growth, such as in-services,

workshops, journal readings, visits to other programs, coursework, and conferences.

  • Serves on district committees related to issues in psychological services.
  • Provides leadership to building teams in interpreting all types of data and Rule

52/Rule 51 requirements.

  • Collaborate with building administration to identify building needs, including

professional development, coverage for meetings, progress monitoring, and all

other student intervention needs as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Evaluation: All teaching staff are evaluated annually according to the provisions of the "Appraisal of Teacher Service in the Springfield Platteview Community Schools Handbook. The Director of Special Services or designee performs this function, and the summative evaluation is completed twice annually for probationary staff and once annually for tenured staff as a minimum. All due process prescribed in state statutes is afforded teachers of Springfield Platteview Community Schools.
