Location: Wentzville Assembly Plant, 1500 E Route A, Wentzville, MO 63385
Job Type: Full-Time, Onsite
Duration: 52 Weeks with Strong Potential for Extension and Direct Hire

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Paint Process Engineer to support automotive paint operations at GM's Wentzville Assembly Plant. This is a fast-paced manufacturing environment where you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automated paint systems, robotics, and production equipment to ensure safety, quality, and throughput targets are achieved daily.

This role combines elements of engineering, maintenance leadership, and equipment ownership. Successful candidates will be hands-on problem solvers who can adapt quickly, lead through influence, and effectively direct technicians in a dynamic production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve automated paint systems and robotics.
  • Ensure production equipment meets safety, quality, and throughput objectives.
  • Support paint booths, sealer systems, mix rooms, pumps, motors, and automated processes.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and automation-related equipment issues.
  • Lead and direct maintenance technicians in resolving production issues.
  • Analyze equipment performance and implement process improvements.
  • Work closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to minimize downtime.
  • Respond quickly to changing production priorities and equipment challenges.
  • Maintain ownership and accountability for assigned equipment and processes.

Department OpportunitiesInside Department (Prime & Topcoat Booths)

  • Highly automated environment with over 100 robots.
  • Focus on robotic paint application systems and automation performance.

Outside Department (Paint Mix & Sealer Areas)

  • Support paint delivery systems, pumps, motors, programming, and process controls.
  • Work with sealer systems and pretreatment equipment.
  • Basic chemistry knowledge is beneficial.
  • Hybrid automation environment with approximately 30-35 robots.

QualificationsPreferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • 8 years of relevant manufacturing, maintenance, automation, or process engineering experience.

Required

  • Technical Degree strongly preferred.
  • Candidates with a High School Diploma may be considered if they possess extensive relevant experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience for highly motivated candidates seeking long-term career growth.

Desired Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of automated manufacturing equipment and robotics.
  • Knowledge of pumps, motors, process controls, and industrial systems.
  • Ability to work hands-on with equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Comfortable managing multiple issues simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations and drive solutions effectively.
  • Leadership experience is a plus, but not required.

Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
