Internship Coordinator (Mental Health Practice)

Reports To: Clinical Director / Practice Administrators
Position Summary
The Internship Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the internship program within the mental health practice. This role ensures that interns receive high-quality training, supervision coordination, onboarding support, and administrative guidance. The Internship Coordinator will also carry a small therapy caseload, providing direct clinical services. This position plays a key role in maintaining a supportive, organized, and compliant training environment for students who are preparing for careers in behavioral health.
Key Responsibilities Internship Program Management
- Recruit, screen, and assist with the selection of qualified interns from partnering universities and training programs.
- Coordinate onboarding, orientation, and training for all incoming interns.
- Maintain documentation, agreements, and compliance requirements with universities or licensing boards.
- Create and update internship manuals, policies, schedules, and performance expectations.
- Track intern attendance, progress, supervision hours, and required competencies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for interns regarding program structure, expectations, and assignments.
- Address intern concerns, performance issues, or scheduling conflicts in collaboration with the Clinical Director.
- Travel to our sites in Harnett County and Guilford County
- Other duties as assigned
Supervision & Support
- Coordinate intern assignments, including client caseloads, workshops, group facilitation, and administrative tasks.
- Provide weekly check-ins or support meetings (non-licensure supervision unless credentialed).
- Ensure interns adhere to ethical guidelines, HIPAA, and practice policies.
- Offer guidance on clinical documentation, professional behavior, and case management.
- Cultivate a positive, educational, structured, and professional training environment.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Carry a small therapy caseload (example: 5–10 clients weekly, depending on practice needs).
- Provide individual, family, or group therapy within scope of license or intern-level credential.
- Complete intakes, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and all required documentation.
- Participate in staff meetings, case consultations, and program development activities.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain intern schedules, caseload distribution, and program calendars.
- Assist with planning student workshops, shadowing opportunities, and field experiences.
- Provide regular reports to leadership regarding intern performance and program needs.
- Support quality assurance efforts related to documentation, compliance, and record-keeping.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Behavioral Health, Human Services, or related field.
- Active license or provisional license preferred (LCSWA, LCSW, LCMHC, LCMHCA, MFT, MFT-A)
- Experience providing mental health services or working in a counseling/clinical environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and support students with professionalism.
- Understanding of confidentiality laws (HIPAA), ethical guidelines, and clinical best practices.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience supervising or mentoring students or staff.
- Knowledge of electronic health record systems (e.g., TherapyNotes).
- Ability to model professionalism, boundaries, and clinical excellence.
- Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.
Work Environment
- Office-based or hybrid setting depending on the practice.
- Involves frequent communication with interns, staff, and partnering universities.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours depending on intern schedules or events.

Pay: $22.48 - $27.07 per hour
