Summary of Work
ND State Hospital (NDSH) - Jamestown, ND - Environmental Services Technician
As our Health Care Environmental Services Technician, you will play an essential role in creating a clean, safe and welcoming environment for everyone who lives, works or visits the North Dakota State Hospital. You will take pride in maintaining all types of flooring by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, refinishing and polishing to keep our spaces looking their best. You will respond to spills and stains as they occur and ensure that safety is always a priority by following standard care procedures and the regulations set by our leadership team.
You will complete daily cleaning tasks in bathrooms, living areas, offices and shared spaces, including hallways and stairwells. You will contribute to infection prevention by ensuring proper cleanliness, preventing cross-contamination and handling chemicals safely and responsibly in the storage room. You will make sure supplies are always stocked and available.
You will also support the laundry area by ensuring linens are clean, folded, rotated properly and ready for use. When shortages occur, you will submit requests so the team can stay fully prepared. In addition to your daily responsibilities, you will provide assistance during emergency evacuations or medical situations whenever needed.
To succeed in this role, you should bring a positive, can-do attitude and be ready to help in a wide variety of situations. You will understand and use MSDS information when mixing hazardous and nonhazardous materials, familiarize yourself with HMIS ratings, learn the different types of waste stream management. You will follow NDSH standard precautions and adhere to safety guidelines aligned with Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations. You will be comfortable operating and maintaining equipment such as high-pressure washers, drills and carpet cleaning machines, and you must be able to lift a minimum of 20 to 50 pounds as part of your daily responsibilities.

To be considered for this position, you are required to have a High School Diploma or GED and a Minimum of one (1) year of related experience as a custodian.
Career Development/Certification available:
- Able to be Certified as a Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST), available after 6 months of employment or passing probation.
- Hazmat Training, Biohazard waste and manifest documents Training available.
