Orthopedic Surgeon (Key Personnel – Federal Contract)
Location

Minimum Requirements
● Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.● Board Certified or Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS).● Minimum 2 years of recent orthopedic surgical experience, including arthroplasty and trauma/fracture care.● Strong understanding of general orthopedic practice, including outpatient, inpatient, surgical, emergent, and perioperative care.● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document clearly and efficiently using electronic health record systems (CPRS/VistA).● Ability to perform orthopedic procedures including joint injections, fracture management, splinting/casting, reductions, and operative interventions.● Detail-oriented and proficient in maintaining accurate clinical notes, operative reports, consults, and orders.● Ability to work under pressure and manage urgent/emergent cases, including 24/7 call responsibilities, while ensuring high-quality patient care.● Familiarity with AAOS, ABOS, Joint Commission, and AHA practice standards.● Proficiency in operating room procedures, surgical workflows, and multidisciplinary coordination with nursing, anesthesia, and primary care teams.● Must hold an active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state.● Must maintain current BLS & ACLS certifications.● Ability to pass federal background checks, credentialing processes (VetPro), immunization compliance, and mandatory VA training requirements.Preferred Qualification
⮚ Fellowship training in Arthroplasty, Trauma, Sports Medicine, or Hand Surgery.
⮚ Prior experience working in a VA medical center, military healthcare system, or federal healthcare environment.
⮚ Familiarity with CPRS/VistA, VA documentation standards, and OPPE/FPPE requirements.
⮚ Experience in Level I or Level II trauma settings.
Responsibilities/ Scope of Work
⮚ Provide comprehensive onsite general orthopedic services, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions in outpatient and inpatient settings.
⮚ Perform surgical procedures such as arthroplasty, fracture fixation, rotator cuff repair, carpal tunnel release, and other orthopedic interventions in accordance with VA standards.
⮚ Participate in scheduled OR block days and maintain timely completion of pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative documentation.
⮚ Provide outpatient clinic coverage, including new patient evaluations, follow-ups, procedures, joint injections, aspirations, and minor in-office orthopedic care.
⮚ Deliver 24/7 rotational on-call orthopedic coverage, including phone consult response within 15 minutes and onsite emergency response within 60 minutes.
⮚ Manage inpatient orthopedic consults, perform daily rounding, coordinate care plans, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
⮚ Ensure all patient care documentation is completed in CPRS/VistA per VA timelines, including consults, operative reports, and clinic notes.
⮚ Comply with all VA, federal, infection control, privacy, and clinical practice regulations.
⮚ Attend required meetings, trainings, and credentialing evaluations (OPPE/FPPE).
⮚ Collaborate with VA surgeons, specialists, PAs, NPs, and nursing staff to support high-quality orthopedic care for Veterans.
⮚ Maintain professionalism, reliability, and adherence to key personnel requirements, ensuring uninterrupted coverage per contract needs.
