JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor Respiratory Care will perform in both a clinical and leadership role within the department or other entities as assigned. In this role, the Supervisor will serve in a clinical role as required while also demonstrating leadership and collaboration within the department and hospital / other entities in general. The Supervisor will strive to establish and maintain strong working relationships with the administrative team, physicians, nursing, and other departments. With the Manager of Respiratory Care, the supervisor will participate and provide input into team member new hire and annual appraisals, maintain adequate supplies and equipment while participating in the ordering process, support the department educator with orientation, training, and competency, participates in staff scheduling, allocation, assignments, and attendance monitoring, and assist in data collection, performance improvement, and special projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the evaluation of team members, new hires and annual appraisals of Respiratory Care staff.
  • Assists in the development and performance of orientation, training, and competency program requirements.
  • Serves as a liaison for customer service and recovery, conflict resolution within and outside of the department, and communicates findings and additional needs to the Manager of Respiratory Care as needed.
  • Responsible for the inventory and utilization of supplies and equipment in the department within budgetary guidelines. Has a working knowledge of all equipment and supplies and in the department and makes recommendations, which facilitate and enhance patient care.
  • Demonstrates positive leadership traits by role modeling, educating, staff, fostering teamwork, promoting loyalty to the hospital and department as well as empathizing with the needs of the staff.
  • Assesses workload and adjusts staffing to meet the workload as necessary while maintaining minimum staffing requirements. Assures assignments are distributed and competed by team members.
  • Maintains accurate accounting of team member coaching and attendance records. Assures policies and procedures are performed in accordance with department standards.
  • Assists in the creation of staff schedules. Makes changes to the schedule as necessary to accommodate team member shift swaps, address call offs, etc.
  • Participates in data collection, monitoring, and resolution of quality and performance initiatives.
  • Performs activities as assigned regarding any special projects or accrediting initiatives that the Respiratory Care department is responsible for. This may include responsibility for CAP, COLA, JCAHO and may be the direct responsibility of a particular lead within the department.
  • Performs routine communication with team members regarding hospital and department activities as well as updates to policies and procedures which may be pertinent to department needs.
  • Assist team members with variance reporting while supporting the team with safety and security for staff and patients.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree with 2 year clinical respiratory care experience including critical care OR Associates degree with a minimum of 5 years clinical respiratory care experience including critical care required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in supervisory/ lead role preferred.
  • Licensed by the State of Florida as a Respiratory Therapist (RT) required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association required.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association are recommended but not required.
  • NRP IS highly recommended but not required.

  • Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
