Appalachian Community Services provides Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Substance Use, and Developmental Disability services to individuals, families, and communities within the seven western counties of North Carolina. We provide a wide range of walk-in, psychiatric, substance abuse, and crisis services to adults and children.
About the Role
We are seeking a Community Mental Health Assistant to work either full-time to provide support services such as monitoring, supervision of clients, assisting with meals, transportation to offsite activities (ARU specific), facilitating as directed, goals and recovery education groups, peer support techniques (for staff with peer support training), intervention in client's behavior per protocol and under supervision, assisting clients with completion of daily living skills, wellness recovery action planning and post crisis plans, visual monitoring of all clients per acuity protocol, provide accurate reports, complete required documentation, vital signs and/or collection of lab specimens, completion of any assigned paperwork and documentation necessary for medical records or billing purposes, answer a multi-line phone system in a professional manner, take messages, and transfer calls and other assigned tasks.
- Monitor clients closely during scheduled shifts, completing and recording observations according to established ARU protocols.
- Create and maintain a positive environment, guiding activities to ensure participation in group sessions.
- Assist clients in setting daily goals and preparing for discharge, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge needed for continued recovery.
- Report observations of behavioral improvements or challenges to the ARU Treatment Team to support ongoing client development.
- Actively engage clients in wellness and recovery concepts, assisting them in working their treatment plans and toward discharge.

Compensation
Competitive hourly pay aligned with your role, experience, and contribution, with opportunities for growth over time.
- Compensation: $17.36 - $22.29
Placement within the range is based on licensure level, education, and experience.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED. Prefer one year's experience working with population served, or Certification as a CNA or PSS.
