This is an anticipated vacancy.
This position will function as a Transportation Supervisor I in the Division 13 Traffic Services Unit. This position will supervise and direct the pavement marking operations within the seven counties of the Division. The position will plan and coordinate pavement marking installations, develop work zone traffic control plans, oversee inventory of paint and pavement marking materials, monitor expenditures, maintain work and inventory records, investigate public complaints, ensure equipment is maintained and serviced, coordinate activities with other work units, train and counsel employees, conduct performance reviews, and assist with interviewing prospective employees. The position is subject to responding to emergency situations after normal work hours and on weekends. Work may include special assignments outside of normal working hours.

Employee must have the ability to supervise personnel, interpret and apply personnel policies, ability to use sound judgement and initiative in roadway signing operations. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills for reports, letter writing, and daily contact with the public, other DOT Departments, public officials, contractors, first responders, and employees of other governmental agencies. Must possess working knowledge of the MUTCD and NCDOT Standard Drawings / Specifications as they relate to signing traffic control devices. Must be able to traverse rough and uneven terrain. Must be able to operate a state vehicle. Position will require some climbing and bending.

- Knowledge in Advance Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety practices
- Experience in planning work and supervising a work crew
- Experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic control safety devices which includes, highway signs, pavement markings, traffic signal systems and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) devices
- Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used
- Experience in emergency response for inclement weather and sign maintenance
