What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Financial Analyst - Financial Planning & Analysis position at NCAA?
The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) will support the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team with planning, forecasting, reporting, and ad hoc analysis for over 90 championships. This role will report to the Director of Sports Planning in FP&A and will be responsible for building complex financial models in Excel, streamlining financial processes, and supporting strategic decision-making. Ideal candidates will have 3 years of experience in a similar capacity, ideally in management consulting or corporate strategy functions.
Financial Modeling & Reporting
- Build and maintain complex financial models in Excel to support strategic decision-making and scenario planning to assist leaders in navigating business decisions.
- Support long-range planning, monthly forecasting, and reporting processes for 90 NCAA championships.
- Prepare business analytics by bringing together relevant datasets from disparate data systems to provide insightful analytics to leadership. This includes the development of KPI’s and variance analytics to deliver actionable insights to leadership of financial drivers, opportunities, and risks.
- Develop annual budgets and multi-year forecasts in collaboration with the Director of FP&A and department leaders.
- Become a subject matter expert in your aligned championships cost centers, providing clear explanations for variances and actional recommendations to leadership.
- Conduct ad hoc financial analysis to support business initiatives.
Collaboration & Communication
- Have a curious and questioning mindset, and work collaboratively with business stakeholders to gather inputs, data, and information to support financial modeling.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather inputs and validate assumptions.
- Support executive-level presentations and reports summarizing financial insights.
- Collaborate with functional leaders and procurement to evaluate new initiatives, contracts, and capital investments and service as a financial subject matter expert on projects as needed.
- Communicate complex financial concepts clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
Process Improvement
- Assist in automating financial processes and improving reporting efficiency.
- Bring a proactive, analytical mindset with a strong sense of ownership and attention to detail.
- Identify opportunities for data automation, dashboarding, and model enhancements to improve data accuracy and transparency.
- Contribute to ongoing enhancements of financial tools, models, and data pipelines.
- Document and standardize financial processes to support consistency, cross training, and scalability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar capacity
- Experiences in management consulting or corporate strategy preferred but not required
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling and scenario analysis.
- Strong understanding of financial planning and analysis processes.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Estimated Travel Required: <10%.
- Hybrid work environment: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote (Indianapolis-based).
