The Sugar Bowl Committee is accepting applications for an experienced and accomplished individual to serve in the position of Sr. Director of Communications.

Basic Function

This full-time, salaried position will coordinate and supervise a program of public, media, and community relations to create interest in the events and activities of the Sugar Bowl Committee, making efforts to create a positive narrative about the Sugar Bowl. This individual must be able to establish positive working relationships with national and local media in promoting Sugar Bowl Committee programming.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead the media relations and media operations effort for the Sugar Bowl.
  • Oversee an assistant director.
  • Represent the Bowl at pertinent College Football Playoff and CoSIDA meetings.
  • Plan and execute press conferences, media day and press box set-up for the annual Sugar Bowl Football Classic and an array of other Sugar Bowl sponsored events and activities.
  • Write press releases, scripts and feature stories relevant to Sugar Bowl activities.
  • Serve as the primary contact for television and radio partners and be the primary contact for the Bowl’s media hotel and all details related thereto.
  • Produce all Bowl printed materials, including the game program for the Sugar Bowl Football Classic, an annual media guide, an annual report, and other programs and materials related to the events sponsored or administered by the Bowl.
  • Manage all things related to the Bowl’s website (www.allstatesugarbowl.org).
  • Organize all Manning Award needs, including set up of voting procedure; distribution of Watch List, Finalists, and winner releases; notification of winning school and quarterback; coordination of date for event; travel for winner and the actual day-of-ceremony needs. Coordinate Manning Award Stars of the Week.
  • Serve as Liaison with the Football Writers Association in the presentation of the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.
  • Coordinate all Sports Awards Committee activities, including monthly meetings; annual selection of Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame, Corbett Awards, and other yearly awards.
  • Work with the CEO and COO to establish a budget to accommodate the needs of the media relations department for the year.
  • Maintain the historic archives of the organization.

The Sr. Director of Communications will report to the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer.

Requirements And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required – Master’s Degree Preferred
  • 10 years of experience in the sports communications field
  • Effective written and oral communications skills, along with strong proofreading and computer skills
  • Attention to detail and adaptability to a rapidly changing environment is extremely important
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of all corporate and research matters
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, prioritize, and bring to completion multiple projects simultaneously
  • Should be dependable and consistent in performance and availability
  • Must possess a willingness to work long hours as circumstances dictate

About Allstate Sugar Bowl

Mission: The Sugar Bowl's mission is to seek out, promote, finance, sponsor, schedule, conduct, and operate an annual calendar of local, state, national and international amateur and collegiate sporting events in the Greater New Orleans area and the State of Louisiana for the purpose of generating tourism. On January 15, 2027, the Organization will host the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the 93rd Annual Sugar Bowl Classic in the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Membership and Staff: There are over 125 individuals comprising the current membership of the Sugar Bowl Committee. These members represent the Organization on various working committees designed to carry out the Sugar Bowl's mission. The Organization's day-to-day operations are conducted in its office located in the Caesars Superdome and are handled by a full-time staff of 12 employees.
