Salary will be between $38,000 and $40,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience. Job Description

Idaho State University is seeking applications for an Assistant Coach / Director of Operations beginning in July for the 2026-2027 season. This is a full-time position that will report to the Director of Track and Field Cross Country and serve a dual role by providing administrative leadership and operational support while contributing to student-athlete development and coaching within the Track and Field and Cross Country program.

This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in all Track and Field Cross Country Program decisions and season operations as assigned by the Director of Track and Field Cross Country. -Coordinate day-to-day operations of the Track and Field and Cross Country programs, including team travel, transportation, lodging, meals, itineraries, scheduling, equipment management, purchasing, and distribution. -Assist with home meet administration and event management logistics, including facility preparation, volunteer coordination, and competition operations. -Support recruiting operations through campus visit planning, communication with prospective student-athletes, database management, and recruiting logistics. -Maintain team records, schedules, compliance documentation, and other administrative records as required by the NCAA, Big Sky Conference, University, and Department. -Assist with budget management, expense tracking, purchasing processes, and financial reconciliation. -Serve as a liaison between the Track and Field Cross Country program and athletic department personnel, campus departments, alumni, donors, and external partners. -Coordinate team communication and assist with media relations, social media content, promotional efforts, fundraising activities, alumni engagement, youth camps, and community outreach initiatives. -Support student-athlete academic success, personal development, and overall program culture. -Assist the Director of Track and Field Cross Country in the instruction, development, and mentoring of student-athletes. -Coach in one or more event areas based on experience and program needs, including sprints, hurdles, jumps, throws, middle distance, distance, cross country, multi-events, or strength and conditioning. -Assist in the design and implementation of training programs consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Track and Field Cross Country program. -Assist with recruiting, evaluation, and retention of prospective student-athletes. -Monitor student-athlete development, performance, health, wellness, and competitive progress. -Attend and assist with practices, competitions, recruiting activities, team functions, and other program-related responsibilities as assigned. -Exhibit leadership and a commitment to excellence in professional standards and ethical behavior. Make professional decisions with adherence to NCAA, Big Sky Conference, University, and Department rules, regulations, and codes of conduct. -Demonstrate excellent communication skills in writing, speaking, and listening while maintaining positive and collaborative working relationships with student-athletes, colleagues, parents, alumni, and university personnel. -Assist in creating a positive, and high-performing team culture where all individuals are encouraged to contribute, develop, and support one another. -Continually learn, grow, and participate in educational conferences, workshops, meetings, and professional development opportunities to enhance coaching and operational effectiveness. -Work is done in the office and at athletic facilities and may often include early mornings, evenings, holidays, weekends, and overnight travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Two (2) years experience competing or coaching in collegiate Track and Field, Cross Country, Strength and Conditioning, or related athletic disciplines.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, student-athletes, administrators, and support personnel.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes
  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record and ability to travel.
  • Applicants must pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Previous collegiate coaching, competitive, or athletic administration experience.
  • Experience in strength and conditioning and athletic performance development.
  • Experience coordinating team operations, recruiting activities, travel logistics, budget management, or event administration.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and Big Sky Conference rules and regulations.
  • USTFCCCA, USATF, CSCS, CPR, First Aid, or related professional certifications.
  • Experience utilizing recruiting databases, operational software, and communication platforms.

  • Centennial Cr...oss Country Course is located just east of campus. Pocatello has an extensive trail system that the team also uses for training.
  • Holt Arena Hosts the Indoor track and field facility from November through February. The track features a 6 lane 200 meter banked oval and a 6 lane 60-meter straightaway with room for high jump, throws, and pole vault inside the oval and the long jump and triple jump next to the straightaway. Additional tarps and equipment allow for training for outdoor throwing events during the winter season. Idaho State hosts the Simplot Games, one of the nation’s largest high school indoor meets with 2,200 athletes from all across the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Holt underwent a 14-million-dollar renovation and is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2023.
  • Davis Field Outdoor Track and Field is Located at Davis Field on lower campus. Davis Field is a shared facility between the track and field and cross-country teams and the women’s soccer team. Originally constructed in 1936. In the Spring of 2020 the facility underwent a seven-million-dollar renovation with upgrades for both soccer and track and field. The track has 8 lanes with colored exchange zones for relays, and features two discus rings, two javelin runways, two high jump aprons, two long and triple jump runways, and two pole vault runways. The multiple runways and throwing rings provide versatility both during practice and meets to provide the best conditions for optimal performance.
  • Bartz FieldBartz Field is also on campus and hosts the Hammer Cage and throwing ring which has additional cement training areas and a storage facility. Show more
