This is a 75%, 10-month, annually renewable coaching appointment. The position carries a $31,010 - $32,500 annual salary, comprehensive benefit package, and the opportunity for an on-campus housing package.

The assistant coach is responsible for supporting all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division III softball program. The assistant coach assists the head coach in student recruitment and retention; coaches student athletes and fosters their skill development; assists in coaching plans and implementation at practices and competitions; provides for students’ safety, health and wellbeing; complies with NCAA, and university policies; provides sound fiscal management; assists in equipment oversight, scheduling, travel planning, and summer camps; assists in off-season programs and athlete development; and assists in program communication and fundraising efforts with the Head Coach. The assistant coach will work with the head coach to build a shared vision, work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, build and retain a diverse and talented team, foster good sportsmanship and a climate of respect, and provide an environment that supports students in achieving their athletic, academic and life goals.
Essential Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
A Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated effectiveness playing and/or coaching softball is required. A Master’s degree, college coaching experience and/or participation at the collegiate level are preferred.
Required qualifications include: excellent organization, oral and written communication skills, an appreciation for the philosophy of the NCAA Division III, strong program management skills, the ability to recruit and retain qualified and talented student athletes, a demonstrated commitment to students’ athletic and academic success, the demonstrated ability to build, motivate, and retain a diverse, inclusive, successful team with sensitivity to individuals of all cultural backgrounds, and the capacity to be a visible and engaging leader. The successful candidate will demonstrate an appreciation for the mission and value of a public liberal arts college, be self-directed and motivated, work with integrity, and bring skills and abilities needed to advance Cougar softball, the athletic programs, and the University.
