The Center for Marine Sciences & Technology (CMAST) is located in Morehead City, NC on the campus of Carteret Community College. CMAST consists of faculty, staff and students from Physical and Mathematical Sciences, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, NC Sea Grant, NC Cooperative Extension and faculty from Carteret Community College. By promoting multidisciplinary studies among research scientists from the participating NC State University's colleges, enhancing interaction with other educational institutions and agencies concerned with marine science and coastal natural resources, CMAST provides a focal point for citizen contact with NC State University's marine science and extension faculty.

Essential Job Duties
The Communications & IT Support Specialist provides unit-level professional support to CMAST through integrated communications, digital media, and desktop IT services. The role delivers specialized expertise in social media, accessibility-compliant communications, website maintenance, event support, and frontline IT troubleshooting for faculty, staff, and students. This position ensures consistent, accurate, and accessible communication aligned with CMAST and college priorities while maintaining reliable desktop technology operations in coordination with OIT.
Functional Responsibilities:
Communications & Staff Management:
Develops and manages CMAST digital communications, including social media, branding, videography, writing, and digital content. Ensures all communications meet federal accessibility guidelines. Supports annual activity reports, communications plans, and calendars aligned with CMAST and college priorities. Tracks communication metrics and adjusts strategies based on effectiveness.
Desktop IT Support:
Provides frontline desktop support for CMAST faculty, staff, and students, including Eduroam connectivity, software installations, printer driver setup, malware troubleshooting, and coordination with OIT for building access and technical issues. Ensures reliable and responsive IT support for daily operations.
Project Management & Resource Prioritization:
Supports CMAST website maintenance, high-touch content creation, event communications, logistical coordination, and public tours of the building/program.
Strategic Communications & Philanthropy Support:
Collaborates with communications and development staff from CALS, CVM, COS, ORI, and University partners to promote CMAST research, extension, and academic programs to the public and prospective donors.
Other Responsibilities
Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

- Experience managing social media, digital communications, website content, and multimedia production for an organization.
- Demonstrated experience creating accessible digital content.
