POSITION TITLE: Deputy General Counsel, Federation
DEPARTMENT: Legal Department of North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation, Inc. (NCFB)
POSITION REPORTS TO: Secretary and General Counsel
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The Deputy General Counsel is an attorney in North Carolina Farm Bureau’s (NCFB) Legal Department who provides high quality legal services to NCFB Federation and its affiliated corporations.
The following is a non-exclusive list of activities the individual hired for the position will perform:
- Coordinate with the General Counsel in executing NCFB’s public policy litigation strategy, including representation of clients through NCFB’s public interest law firm
- Support the General Counsel in advising NCFB’s Board and management regarding corporate governance and organization
- Ensure NCFB’s compliance with federal and state laws, including PAC and lobbyist reporting
- Collaborate with NCFB’s government relations professionals in advocating for NCFB’s policy positions
- Other duties as assigned by NCFB’s Secretary & General Counsel
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
- Ability to collaborate and work in a professional manner with NCFB team members, volunteers, and other NCFB partners
- Must possess the organizational skills and flexibility to multitask efficiently, handling time-sensitive projects while maintaining strong attention to detail
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE
- Juris Doctor
- Licensed to practice law in North Carolina (or willing to become licensed in NC within 12 months of hire)
- 5 years of litigation, corporate or in-house legal experience preferred
- Experience in agricultural law preferred
OFFICE AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENT
- Position primarily housed in the Raleigh headquarters of NCFB
- Some travel required
- Limited remote work opportunity available
