Description Of Work

The mission of the NC Department of Adult Correction (DAC) Division of Comprehensive Health Services Pharmacy Services is to provide quality, comprehensive, and cost-effective pharmaceutical and clinical care to the offender population.

The Clinical Pharmacist position is based within the NC Department of Adult Correction Division of Comprehensive Health Services at the Apex Central Pharmacy in Apex, NC and is responsible for providing statewide pharmacy clinical services. Position responsibilities include evaluating nonformulary drug utilization review requests in compliance with the DAC formulary, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee decisions, DAC Clinical Practice Guidelines, and best practices ensuring continuity and standardization of care; recommending formulary drug alternatives; providing expertise in pharmacotherapy support including advising on drug interactions, monitoring requirements, drug therapy recommendations/selection, and developing institutional tools from nationally-recognized Clinical Practice Guidelines that help make decisions related to medications for diabetes, cardiovascular, pulmonary, seizure, mental health, cancer disease states, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis B and C; participating in clinical programs on a statewide facility basis in the areas of antibiotic stewardship, diabetes, hypertension, mental health, anticoagulation, chemotherapy, etc.; serving as a specialized clinical resource for drug information and training; monitoring drug regimens; possessing knowledge of intravenous drug usage and administration, performing calculations for dosing recommendations; processing facility provider medication orders; and participating in after hours on-call.

Knowledge Skills And Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $93,644 - $187,286

Salary Grade: MH23

  • Documented knowledge of principles and practices of professional pharmacy, and ability to perform core competencies as defined for Clinical Pharmacists.
  • Documented knowledge of ability to provide specialized clinical consultation and comprehensive drug information; detect and recommend solutions for complex adverse drug interactions, evaluate therapy options or contraindications based on patients' disease state; and identify and justify any necessary revisions to patient treatment plans.

**This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. **Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.**

Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of North Carolina and one year clinical pharmacy practice experience.
