Position Purpose

The Assistant Director of Diversity Planning supports the Director of Diversity Planning in advancing a strategic, mission-aligned approach to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) across the Charlotte Country Day School community (JK–12). This role helps design, implement, and assess programs that strengthen a culture of belonging, support student development, and enhance inclusive practices across academic and community life.

Key Responsibilities

Student, Faculty, and Community Engagement

  • Support the development and implementation of DEIB initiatives, student programs, and school-wide events that foster belonging and cultural competency.
  • Partner with divisional leaders and DEIB coordinators to strengthen inclusive practices across campus.
  • Build meaningful relationships with students and colleagues to support an inclusive and engaging school environment.
  • Advise affinity-based student organizations and support leadership development within these groups.
  • Support student well-being, with attention to historically underrepresented populations.
  • Participate in divisional meetings and collaborate on student support and DEIB-related needs.

Academic Program and Curriculum

  • Collaborate with academic leadership to ensure curriculum and programming reflect inclusive and culturally responsive practices.
  • Support faculty in developing and implementing inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Assist in creating tools and processes to assess progress in DEIB-related curriculum goals.
  • Contribute to programs such as the New Student Summer Scholars Program.

Teaching and Professional Learning

  • Teach one course per semester.
  • Support the design and delivery of professional development for faculty and staff on topics such as inclusion, intercultural communication, and anti-bias practices.
  • Facilitate conversations and learning experiences that strengthen community understanding and engagement.
  • Identify and promote relevant professional development opportunities.
  • Coordinate student participation in DEIB-related conferences and programs.

Recruitment and Retention

  • Partner with school leadership to support the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Collaborate with the Admissions team to strengthen strategies that support a diverse and thriving student body.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at attracting and supporting underrepresented groups within the school community.

Communications and Partnerships

  • Work with the Director of Diversity Planning and MarCom team to support DEIB communications, including digital and community outreach.
  • Partner with parent and community groups to advance DEIB goals and strengthen engagement.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in DEIB program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work across diverse groups.
  • Proven ability to collaborate, plan strategically, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in independent school setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in facilitating thoughtful, respectful dialogue on complex and sensitive topics.
  • Teaching experience and the ability to work across disciplines.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching or related professional experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
