Summary
The primary purpose of this position is: to plan, manage and administer a comprehensive year round base fitness, sports and aquatics program and the facilities used in conducting these programs. As customers request and resources allow, provide enhanced programming in these fitness areas. The organization location of this position is at the Fitness Center aboard NCBC Gulfport, Mississippi.

Directly supervises the Sports Coordinator, Aquatics Coordinator and Head Trainer along with other supporting personnel in the Fitness Complex. Issues internal instructions and guidelines to employees. Keeps employees fully informed of management objectives and policy changes to the program. Performs the full range of personnel management duties. Trains, assigns duties, sets work standards, appraises performance, recognizes, corrects, interviews, selects and schedules and approves leave for employees. Exercises extensive supervisory responsibility through subordinate staff for the operation, care and maintenance of gymnasiums; lighted ball fields, multi-purpose fields which may include a running track, soccer and football fields; tennis courts, and outdoor basketball and volleyball courts. The work force includes military and civilian personnel engaged in performing operational tasks related to program activities.

- Evaluating performance of subordinates
- Monitoring workload
- Analyzing methods and results and instructions to individuals on both work and administrative matters
- Interview candidates and make selections of appointments, promotion or reassignment
- Hearing employee complaints; reviewing and recommending disciplinary actions
- Identifying and developing required training for employees
- Conducting regular facility equipment and inventory checks
- Maintains clean and safe facilities by ensuring cleaning duties are being performed, whether by staff, or contracted employees
- Weight Control, Nutrition, Exercise, Smoking Cessation, Hypertension Control, Stress Management, Back Injury Prevention, Prevention of Substance Abuse
- Develops individual fitness/wellness programs unique to the individual needs of each patron
- Promotes and publicizes services available through a variety of sources
- Assists Fitness Specialist with supervising Navy Operational Fitness and Fueling Series (NOFFS), Mission Nutrition Command Fitness Leader Course and other CNIC Headquarters supported/endorsed programs
- Assists with marketing and promotion of fitness programs
- Coordinates the design, supervision, coaching, and instruction of a variety of group exercise programs (e.g., Step, Spin, Water Aerobics) inside and outside of the various fitness facilities.
- Coordinates fitness training and programming to groups of various sizes.
- Coordinates certified personal training services to all eligible patrons.
- Coordinates Instruction of patrons in the proper use of all equipment for training and self -monitored progress by preparing written instructions and procedures for the performance of work, use of equipment, safety and well-being of all involved.
- Coordinates assisting patrons on the fitness floor by providing training tips in order to prevent unsafe or ineffective exercise techniques.
- Coordinates written instruction and procedures for performance of work, use of equipment, safety, and well-being of all involved.
- Coordinates the proper implementation and maintenance of conditioning and training programs for aerobic fitness, muscular fitness, body composition, and flexibility training.
- Coordinates administration of fitness testing, which includes measuring aerobic capacity, body composition, muscular strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, and blood pressure.
- Incumbent stays current and ensures fitness specialists stay current with latest fitness programming ideas to increase attendance and improve customer satisfaction
- Coordinates with Fitness Specialist, CFL, ACFL's to provide certified personal training and group exercise services to active duty military as outlined in the Navy's Physical Readiness Program instruction.
- Coordinates the instruction of the Command Fitness Leader course and fitness related general military training.
- Oversees Fitness Specialist's role in working with various command representatives (CFL, ACFL) to develop and implement physical fitness programs for military personnel.

- Incumbent must have a Bachelor’s degree in a health and fitness related field or five years of field related experience
- Must be certified in CPR, basic first aid, and posses basic fitness certifications from a nationally recognized health and fitness organization.
- Incumbent is subject to work an uncommon tour of duty to meet program requirements including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft when performing temporary duty (TDY).
- Requires the operation of personal or government vehicles. A valid driver’s license is required
- May work with hazardous material (lime, cleaning agents, gas, oil, etc.)

- Must have extensive experience in the field of physical education and knowledge of the principles as well as teachings in exercise physiology.
- Knowledge of the safe use and operation of fitness equipment, facility operations, and basic fitness equipment maintenance/repair.
- Skill in planning and carrying out an enhanced program in the recreation specialty area which meets the needs of the participating community.
- Skill and ability to provide fitness training and programming to individuals and groups of various sizes.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
- Ability to competently and independently carry out fitness programs through the proper application of principles, concepts and techniques of fitness to satisfy specific needs of the community to be served.
- Ability to effectively lead and supervise a diverse team of individuals to provide exceptional customer service and accomplish the NCBC GULFPORT Fitness Program mission objectives
- Ability to conduct accurate fitness testing and provide recommended fitness program, based on fitness goals.
- Ability to prepare clear, concise, and technically sound reports related to work within the Branch.
- Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations and/or training.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
