Job Description
Leads the strategic direction, growth, and performance of the Business Lending and Services portfolio. Accountable for P&L performance, market expansion, program & product management, member experience, operations, and the broader business member product and portfolio strategy. Drives sustainable growth through integrated client strategies and relationships, strong risk management, and operational excellence. Builds high-performing teams and partners across the enterprise to deliver holistic financial solutions and achieve corporate objectives. Ensure Business Lending and Services strategies and activities align with the corporate objectives as well as the Lending department and organizations' mission, vision and values.
Responsibilities
Define and execute short- and long-term strategic vision and goals for Lending’s Business Lending division, aligning segment strategies to enterprise growth objectives, member needs, and market opportunities
Accountable for strategic direction, leadership, portfolio performance, including revenue growth, profitability, credit quality, portfolio mix, member experience, risk governance, and operational effectiveness of the business lending and services portfolio
Lead business development strategies through market expansion and member acquisition strategies, relationship-based sales, pipeline discipline; identify new growth opportunities based on market trends, economic conditions, and competitive intelligence
Lead enterprise product and portfolio management, including go-to-market product strategy, lifecycle management, roadmap development, market positioning, member adoption, pricing discipline, product launch strategy, portfolio performance, and ongoing optimization
Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key clients, business leaders, and community stakeholders to advance business member value and long-term organizational performance
Oversee portfolio health and credit quality, ensuring adherence to risk frameworks, regulatory requirements, including underwriting standards, pricing discipline, portfolio monitoring practices, and sound credit governance
Ensure Business Banking and Lending strategies, activities, products, and operations comply with applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, internal policies and governance standards
Define and deliver performance and effectiveness, establish relevant financial, product, portfolio, member, operational, sales, and risk metrics, determine gaps and opportunities for optimizing capabilities
Lead, coach, and develop teams of relationship managers and sales leaders; establishes performance expectations, sales discipline, and pipeline management rigor
Drive cross-sell and relationship deepening strategies through collaboration with Treasury Management, Retail, Wealth, US Small Business Administration (SBA) and other partners
Ensure operational excellence through technology enhancements, consistent execution of processes, controls, and compliance standards, documentation, issue management, and continuous process improvement
Champion technology-enabled transformation across the business lending and services portfolio, including digital capabilities, data and analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, workflow modernization, member self-service, process redesign, and scalable operating models
Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, talent development, succession planning, and employee engagement
Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership, providing insights on portfolio performance, market opportunities, product strategy, go-to-market execution, risk trends, and transformation initiatives
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Master’s degree in finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Minimum of 12 years of progressive executive leadership experience in commercial and/or small business banking, commercial credit, business services, business development, or related financial services operations, preferably within a large, complex financial institution
Extensive experience in commercial and business banking, including products, credit structuring, underwriting standards, SBA lending, operational controls, risk governance and portfolio growth and management
Extensive experience in product and portfolio management, including strategy development, lifecycle and roadmap management, business case creation, performance monitoring, market assessment, pricing strategy, client adoption, go-to-market strategies, and cross-functional execution
Extensive experience in portfolio strategy, growth planning, performance monitoring, risk assessment, profitability analysis, product optimization, credit quality management, and disciplined management of business, financial, member, operational, and risk outcomes
Advanced knowledge of operational excellence, process modernization, technology-enabled transformation, data analytics, artificial intelligence, automation, and emerging financial services capabilities
Demonstrated success in relationship-based sales, client or member engagement, market development, and pipeline management
Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and supervisory expectations governing business lending, SBA lending, participation lending, product management, risk management, and financial institution operations
Extensive experience in large-scale business strategy setting and transformation, including leading multi-year initiatives, process improvement, digital enablement, product modernization, and go-to-market execution with a track record of delivering measurable business, financial, operational, member, product, and risk outcomes
Advanced knowledge of operational excellence, process modernization, technology-enabled transformation, data analytics, artificial intelligence, automation, digital member experience, and emerging financial services capabilities
Demonstrated ability to operate as an enterprise executive, including influencing senior leaders, aligning diverse stakeholders, making complex tradeoff decisions, and representing the organization with credibility and authority
Significant experience driving organizational change, shaping culture, advancing employee engagement, and building leadership capacity across large teams
Expert verbal, written, interpersonal, presentation, executive and frontline communication, and board-level briefing skills
Expert ability to adapt to changing conditions, acquire and apply new information, anticipate future implications, and guide teams through complexity
Expert analytical, quantitative, financial, deductive reasoning, strategic problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Desired Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal products, services, programs, policies, procedures, governance practices, and enterprise strategic priorities
