What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Continuity Planner position at Navy Federal Credit Union?
Overview
Analyze organization-wide risks and develop cross-functional plans to mitigate business risks related to the continuity of credit union operations. Develop and maintain business continuity solutions, including risk assessments, business impact analyses, strategy selection, and documentation of business continuity and recovery procedures. Plan, conduct, and debrief regular exercises to test the adequacy of existing plans and strategies, updating procedures and plans.
Responsibilities
- Analyze impact on, and risk to, essential business services or information systems to identify acceptable recovery time periods and resource requirements
- Perform critical business process dependency mapping to ensure critical dependencies (technology, facilities, supply chain, employees) recovery capabilities meet the business needs of Navy Federal
- Serve as the senior resource/liaison to collaborate with business units to develop technical requirements and coordinate with ISD to ensure technical recovery strategies meet business objectives
- In a relationship management capacity, provide guidance and direction to business areas to ensure their business continuity management processes align with enterprise wide business continuity management program standards.
- Promote organizational awareness of Business Continuity policy, standards, plans, and processes
- Ensure that robust, action-oriented and exercisable business continuity plans exist for all business areas
- Lead the planning and facilitation of Business Continuity Testing, Training, & Exercising (TT&E)
- Create scenarios to re-establish operations from various types of business disruptions
- Coordinate testing scenario exercises with recovery teams; ensure validation of business/product/location impact analysis and recovery requirements across business units and technology platforms; identify any gaps or risks
- Support organization's recovery efforts for employee safety and implementation of planned responses in the event of disaster
- Develop and maintain automated systems designed for managing and documenting business continuity plans
- Monitor developing emergencies in all regions where Navy Federal operates and advise management of potential operational losses and alternate strategies; plan and coordinate responses with appropriate business units
- Develop and implement recovery plan training programs, driving visibility and importance of departmental responsibilities
- Establish and maintain critical third-party relationships incorporating Continuity Planning and coordination of third party due diligence activities
- Assist recovery support and business resumption staff during a disaster in the implementation of response and alternate operating strategies
- Ensure business continuity and recovery plans maintain regulatory compliance with NCUA and Federal Financial Institution Examination Council
- Maintain knowledge on current and developing industry practices, trends and technology
- Serve as system administrator for business continuity applications
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in business risk analysis, recovery requirements analysis, and/or emergency management
- Experience in planning for, response to, recovery from, and mitigation for natural, man-made and technological disasters
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of data center operations and telecommunications networks
- Demonstrated experience designing business processes and recovery plans
- Ability to effectively present in front of employees at all levels of the organization, including senior leadership
- Demonstrated proficiency in researching, interpreting and applying regulations
- Ability and willingness to travel to, and work at, various Navy Federal locations if required.
- Ability to assimilate and simplify complicated issues and present findings/conclusions clearly and concisely
- Experience developing and documenting procedures
- Proficiency using PCs including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and project management applications
- Experience with the Fusion Framework System or other automated business continuity planning tool
- Experience with Everbridge Mass Notification or other automated emergency notification system
- Act as Manager, Business Continuity in their absence or as requested
- Strong research, analytical, and problem solving skills, including exercising initiative and good judgment
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- College Degree in Emergency Management, Business Administration, Information Technology, or related fields
