Serves as a Network Engineer Level II within the HQ Network Operations team. Incumbent is responsible for assisting in all aspects of NEXCOM Enterprise site network related services including but not limited to WAN LAN VoIP WLAN and telecommunication technologies.


The following responsibilities are performed under the general supervision of a higher level Network professional or Supervisor:

Responsible for all tasks involving every facet of the Network Operations team as it relates to WAN/LAN, VoIP, WLAN, and telecommunications technologies.

Assists in day to day operations of physical cable plant, copper or fiber, including the completion of Help Desk requests and associated installation requirements for network and telecommunications related services.

Monitors network performance using network diagnostic tools (e.g., ping, traceroute, ipconfig)

Monitors network performance using monitoring tools such as Solarwinds, Netflow, Catalyst Center and SD WAN Manager, or similar.

Installs and replaces Network Operations equipment.

Maintains, supports, and troubleshoots configurations on hardware and software for Network Operations

Maintains the security and integrity of all network operations systems for hardware, software, data, and voice, which includes, but not limited to: RMF, STIGs/PCI regulation, and IS/IA controls

Documents network configurations and changes.

Participates in a 24 hour/7 day on call rotation for overall network support.

Provides oral and written reports to all levels of the Code I management chain of command.?

Keeps supervisor up to date on all assignments.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

SECNAV M 5239.2 DoN, Information Assurance (IA) Workforce Manual requires that all incumbents of this position possess, and maintain current, two types of certifications as follows:

IA Certification: One of the following certifications: :
Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
CompTIA Cloud
CompTIA Security
GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH)
GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)
GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC)
Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)

NEXCOM preferred certification is Security

In addition to an IA certification, personnel with privileged access must also obtain an Operating System (OS) /Computer Environment (CE) or security related tools used within the NEXCOM environment. Concentration must be within one version of the supported Production environment.

Operating System/Computing Environment Certificate
Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST Networking) (pass the associated vendor exam(s) and maintain certificate)

Candidates without the required certification may be placed into this job, but must obtain the required certification within 9 months of appointment; failure to obtain this requirement will result in termination of employment.

Continuous Learning:
DOD requires 20 hours of Continuous Learning each calendar year. This requirement is in addition to any industry certification Continuous Learning requirement. [Note: DOD 20 hours Annually Industry certification Continuous Learning may be applied towards DOD 20 hour annual requirement. However, not all DOD Continuous Learning hours can be applied to industry certification Continuous Learning requirement, check with certification agency on what may be accepted.

This position in accordance with SECNAV M 5510.30 will require a favorable Access National Agency Check and Inquiries (ANACI).

Incumbent may progress non competitively to a Network Engineer Level III position, upon the completion of qualification requirements and training within a 2 year timeframe; advancement is not permitted with less than 2 years in current position.


GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Three years experience in administrative, technical or investigative work that demonstrated the ability and aptitudes required to perform technical, managerial or analytical work involving management information systems.

OR

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: One year of related academic study above the high school level may be substituted for nine months of experience up to a maximum of a four year bachelors degree in a information systems discipline for three years of general experience.

AND

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Two years of progressive experience in general information technology, including computer networks consisting of WAN, LAN, WLAN, and VoIP. Experience should include cable plant installation and support of telephony/network end points (e.g., PCs, analog phones, VoIP telephones, etc.) and network devices (e.g., routers, switches, access points, wireless bridges, VoIP servers, etc.).
