Position Summary

The Human Resources (HR) Director partners with executive leadership to align HR strategy with the overall mission and operations of Navian Hawai'i. This role is responsible for translating organizational goals into effective HR programs, driving change management, and building a workplace culture that supports both employees and the patients and families the organization serves. The HR Director leads the full HR function — from strategic workforce planning through day-to-day HR operations — and serves as a trusted advisor to leadership on all people-related matters. The role requires a balance of strategic leadership and hands-on operational oversight, with the ability to shift between strategic and tactical responsibilities as organizational needs evolve.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Translate Navian Hawai‘i's strategic plan into short- and mid-term HR initiatives, and drive those initiatives to successful completion.
  • Develop, align, and execute HR programs in support of business objectives; monitor progress against metrics and milestones and report to senior leadership.
  • Prioritize HR initiatives and allocate resources to focus on the organization's highest-value opportunities and changing business needs.
  • Serve as a member of the Navian Hawai‘i Leadership Team, providing sound judgment and decision-making on organizational and people-related issues.
  • Provide strategic leadership for enterprise-wide change initiatives, partnering with leaders to drive organizational transformation and successful adoption of strategic priorities.
  • Advise business leaders on organizational design and effectiveness, using workforce data and analytics to inform decisions on compensation, talent reviews, retention, and succession planning.

HR Operations

  • Lead, develop, and coach the HR team, fostering accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Leverage internal and external HR resources to deliver effective, scalable HR solutions that support organizational priorities and changing business needs.
  • Lead employee relations efforts by fostering a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture. Provide guidance to managers and employees on conflict resolution, performance management, and policy interpretation, ensuring fair and consistent application of organizational standards.
  • Oversee administration of employee records, including tracking of annual certifications, health clearances, and testing requirements, and follow up to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Design, develop and implement competitive total rewards strategies, including compensation, health, retirement, wellness, incentives, engagement and other rewards & recognition programs that are cost effective and consistent with labor market trades and Navian’s overall long-term goals.
  • Partners with Navian’s Professional Employer Organization (PEO) to oversee and manage payroll processing and benefits administration, including coordination of leave programs (PTO, extended sick leave, FMLA, temporary disability, workers' compensation), ensuring service delivery aligns with the organization’s HR strategy and employee experience standards.
  • Manage the organization's Retirement Plan and related compliance testing, and oversee coordination of health and welfare benefits.

Staffing and Talent Retention Strategy

  • Partners with managers/directors to integrate existing workforce plans and staffing strategy when considering openings.
  • Partners with managers to develop the profile, sourcing strategy, selection process and compensation package.
  • Develops retention plans and programs targeting high potential and critical roles in collaboration with Senior Leadership Team.

Organizational Development

  • Develop and lead organizational development and learning strategies that build individual, team, leadership, and organizational capability in support of Navian Hawai?i's strategic priorities.
  • Partner with leaders to assess organizational needs and oversee leadership development, learning initiatives, and professional development programs that foster continuous growth and organizational effectiveness.
  • Lead the organization's performance management philosophy, processes, and talent development strategies to strengthen accountability, employee growth, and organizational performance.
  • Coach leaders in effective performance management, goal setting, succession planning, and the identification and development of high-potential talent.
  • Lead workforce planning efforts by assessing current and future talent needs, identifying capability gaps, and developing strategies to strengthen organizational capacity and succession readiness.
  • Utilize workforce analytics and organizational data to inform talent decisions, organizational design, retention strategies, and long-term workforce planning.
  • Develop and implement strategies that strengthen employee engagement, organizational health, and a culture aligned with Navian Hawai?i's mission, values, and strategic objectives.
  • Partner with leaders to measure organizational effectiveness, improve team performance, and implement initiatives that enhance the employee experience and support organizational change.

Organizational Culture & Community

  • Champion a workplace culture that reflects the mission and values of Navian Hawai‘i and supports the sensitive, high-touch nature of hospice care.
  • Represent Navian Hawai‘i with integrity and professionalism to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage in public and professional education efforts, both independently and in collaboration with community partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President.

Knowledge And Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrates ethical conduct and judgment in harmony with the mission and values of Navian Hawaii
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills and team building.
  • Excellent inter-personal and coaching skills coupled with ability to analyze situations and recommend appropriate courses of action.

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Solid, working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines, including Federal and State employment and benefit laws
  • Proficient with computer applications, including the Internet and MS Office programs and HR related software.
  • Demonstrated administrative ability including knowledge of HR policies/program responsibilities.
  • Experience in development of administrative policies and procedures and design of programs for implementation and compliance.
  • Ability to develop and implement long and short range organizational goals.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with a broad range of staff, volunteers, and the community as a representative of Navian Hawai‘i, Inc.

Experience And Educational Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business Administration or Organizational Development.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3-5 years in a leadership role with a strong background in HR operations.
  • Experience in healthcare, hospice, or a nonprofit setting is a plus.
  • Proven experience managing or implementing HRIS, payroll systems, and benefits platforms.
  • Demonstrated success in leading talent acquisition and employee relations in a fast-paced, multi-site and remote organization.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust and influence at all levels.
  • HRCI, SHRM or other HR/Benefits certification preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Indoors in an air-conditioned office or remote, as well as outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • This position is hybrid, requiring both remote work and on-site presence at our Honolulu office located at 680 Iwilei Rd., Honolulu, HI 96817

Hours

  • Generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 am through 4:30 pm. Remote/Hybrid
  • May include after hours work including weekends and holidays, as needed.

$120,000 - $130,000
