Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer in West Mifflin, PA. A DOE L Clearance (or DOD equivalent) is required to be considered for this position.

Work with a team of engineers supporting repair technology development efforts by leading test programs both within a laboratory setting and via commercial subcontracts. This challenging and rewarding position offers opportunities to continue expanding technical skills through assignments involving both established and novel repair technologies. Opportunities to improve interpersonal skills may occur via interfaces with stakeholders and support groups across the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, our shipyards, and Naval Reactors Headquarters in Washington, DC. Applicant must be able to plan, follow, and execute work efforts, as well as conceive and produce technical designs, instructions and procedures.
Candidate will also contribute to the development of novel repair techniques by drafting, placing, following and reporting subcontracted repair method development/demonstration contracts. The position will also require some travel to vendors and shipyards to support project planning, equipment testing and repair deployment. Repair efforts may include epoxy/composite technologies, mechanical/machining processes, and arc welding technologies.
BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
The candidate will need to have or learn the ability to develop and interpret specifications, drawings, and engineering standards. Applicant must be able to plan and execute test programs, design experiments, analyze experimental results, and assist with the preparation of technical reports. Candidates must have digital design/CAD skills, and preferably will also have familiarity with digital data acquisition hardware and software. The candidate will be asked to lead/execute laboratory operations in a productive, timely, and compliant manner.
Desired Knowledge, Skillset, and Abilities
Candidates that have a knowledge of materials engineering and a background in industrial operations are preferred. Should be able to help develop, test, evaluate, and eventually qualify repair procedures either in the laboratory or via vendors and shipyards. Excellent individual initiative and creativity will enhance the successful candidate's value in this position.
