Job Description

The Materials Development Laboratory (MDL) seeks a candidate at the Principal Materials Engineer level to fill the laboratory engineer role within the Materials Fabrication Facility (MFF). The laboratory engineer is responsible for delivering quality work supporting our sponsors in the areas of heat treatment, rolling/forming, alloy development, and chemical processing for various metals.

Further responsibilities include:

• Administration of the laboratory work request process (i.e. review/assign work requests, schedule/lead pre-job briefs, review final laboratory results, update the laboratory work request system)
• Direct interaction with stakeholders during work planning and execution
• Oversee the laboratory equipment preventive maintenance program including pressure systems inspections
• Oversee upkeep of existing facility systems supporting the laboratory to include craft preventive maintenance
• Equipment procurement and vendor maintenance support
• MDL Property Coordinator
• Position may require some travel
  
  

Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills

• Current/prior NNL laboratory operations experience
• Current/prior experience with air/vacuum heat treatments, alloy development processes, metal working/forming, and/or chemical surface treatments (i.e. pickling, etching, etc.)
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work within a multi-disciplined work group (e.g. engineers, laboratory personnel, management, customers, compliance personnel)
• Proactive problem solver
• Experience or degree in materials science, metallurgical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or nuclear engineering

Pay Range

$106,200.00 - $166,000.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
