What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Mechanic Helper/ Apprentice/ Journeyman position at Navajo Tribal Utility Authority?
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Helper
High School Diploma or GED Certificate
6-12 months experience in Automotive/Mechanical work
Enrollment in the Apprenticeship program is required in accordance with standards
Valid Driver's License, CDL Learner's Permit or CDL Class "A" with Hazmat Endorsement (subject to motor vehicle record review). Required to obtain a CLD Class "A" with Hazmat Endorsement within 6 months from date of employment.
Apprentice
High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
Vocational /Specialized Training
1-2 years experience in Automotive/Mechanical work
Enrollment in the Apprenticeship Program is required in accordance with standards
Requires a Valid CDL Driver's License, Class "A" with HAZMAT Endorsement (subject to motor vehicle review)
Journeyman
High School Diploma or GED Certificate
Journeyman certification from a Bonafide Apprenticeship program.
Vocational/Specialized Training in related field.
5 -7 years experience in automotive/mechanical work.
Requires a Valid CDL Driver's License, Class "A" with HAZMAT Endorsement required (subject to motor vehicle record review)
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
Helper
Assists other mechanics by cleaning, greasing and oiling company vehicles.
Repairs or replaces parts on vehicles and equipment as instructed.
Assist in cleaning, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on company vehicles and equipment, to include shop equipment/tools as required.
Vehicle/heavy equipment tire repair/replacement includes balancing wheel assemblies.
Maintain a clean/safe work environment and practice safe work habits.
Conduct safety inspections on vehicles, equipment, and shop areas. Adhere to company safety policies.
Utilize company vehicles and equipment in a safe manner while abiding by applicable State and local laws as well as company policies, procedures, and standards.
Provide customer service including communicating effectively verbally and in writing information regarding vehicle/equipment conditions, problems, recommendations and repair processes. To include updating and closing work orders in a timely manner.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Apprentice
Performs repairs and/or adjustments upon diagnosis of company vehicles, equipment, or specialized equipment, as assigned.
Performs preventive maintenance and/or repairs on company vehicles and equipment, some of which are specialized in nature. Ensures that all vehicle and equipment service and repair procedures comply with required safety procedures.
Assists in repairs and/or adjustments on gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
Performs field mechanic duties, as assigned.
Repairs or replaces parts on vehicles and equipment as instructed.
Assists automotive mechanics in servicing and repair of heavy equipment.
Maintains, repairs and services all vehicles and equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Journeyman
Performs preventive maintenance and/or repairs on company vehicles and equipment, some of which are specialized in nature.
Ensures that all vehicles and equipment service and repair procedures comply with required safety procedures.
Repairs or replaces parts on vehicles and equipment as instructed.
Verifies that vehicles and equipment can pass appropriate safety inspections.
Conducts timely job performance evaluations on subordinates.
Communicates with the field concerning heavy equipment operations.
Maintains, repairs and services all vehicles and equipment.
Determines the need and extent of repair work required on vehicles and equipment based on operator's reports and testing equipment.
Performs field mechanic duties as assigned.
Coordinates functions related to production and inventory control, and reviews completed sales orders.
Directs operation of facilities utilized for repairing, servicing, and storing motor vehicles.
Assists in instructing Apprentices on work procedures applicable to their respective Apprenticeship level.
