About the Role

Nature Reviews has a vacancy for an Associate or Senior Editor with expertise in the biological sciences.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a field of biological, biochemical or biomedical research, along with excellent scientific judgement. Candidates with expertise in genetics and genomics are particularly encouraged to apply; however, highly qualified candidates from other biological, biochemical or biomedical science disciplines will also be considered.

The successful candidate will report to a Chief Editor or Editorial Team Manager. They will participate in all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, commissioning and editing articles.

This position is offered on a fixed-term basis for 8-month to cover a parental leave. This role can be in our New York or Heidelbergoffices on a hybrid working model.

Role Responsibilities:

• Assessing proposals for articles
• Peer-review coordination
• Editing articles
• Writing Research Highlights, Editorials, and other editorial content
• Working with other editors within a team
• Collaborating with authors and colleagues from other departments

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

Essential

• Educated to PhD level or equivalent, with research experience relevant to the biological sciences
• A passion for science and a thirst to learn more. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest in scientific research, both within and beyond your speciality.
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills, and ability to balance deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable

• Previous editorial experience is an advantage but not essential.Applicants with significant editorial experience will potentially be considered for a Senior Editor position.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Editor:$80,000 / Senior Editor: $95,000.
