Duties
- Safely operate box trucks, including those with manual transmissions, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and other specialized vehicles for over-the-road (OTR) routes.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or forklifts, ensuring cargo is secured according to logistics cargo handling standards.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems, adhering to planned schedules and optimizing delivery paths.
- Comply with all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation), hazardous materials regulations, and hazardous goods handling procedures.
- Transport automobile parts or other specialized cargo while maintaining vehicle safety and security protocols.
- Load, secure, and unload freight accurately, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to safety standards for dangerous goods or hazardous materials when applicable.
- Maintain vehicle inspection logs, report any mechanical issues promptly, and perform routine truck maintenance checks to ensure optimal performance.
- Follow all safety procedures during truck loading/unloading processes and handle logistics cargo with precision to prevent damage or accidents.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to confirm delivery details and resolve any route or delivery issues promptly.
Experience
- Proven experience as a commercial truck driver with a focus on delivery driving or route driving in various environments including OTR routes.
- Demonstrated ability to operate trucks with manual transmissions safely and efficiently.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed trucks, tanker trucks, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, or similar vehicles preferred.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT regulations, hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat), and safety standards related to truck driving and freight handling.
- Experience with forklift operation or other equipment used in truck loading/unloading is a plus.
- Strong understanding of logistics cargo handling procedures for freight including dangerous goods or hazardous materials when applicable.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) appropriate for the vehicle type being operated; endorsements for Hazmat or Tanker may be required depending on the role.
