Role Summary:
NSU is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our dynamic Engineering team. The Senior Project Engineer will carry out engineering tasks and activities on a variety of water and wastewater projects either independently or under limited direction by performing duties personally or guiding other team members.
The ideal candidate will have 5–10 years of relevant experience in wastewater design, particularly in designing pump stations and treatment plants. The candidate should be well-versed in preparing design documents (including calculation sheets, drawings, specifications), engineering reports, and contract documents for bidding and construction, as well as overseeing the construction of projects in the field.
NSU offers a unique opportunity for engineers to gain hands-on experience, with opportunities to see how plants are operated and leverage construction expertise for better project design. Additionally, there will be significant opportunities to lead projects, interact with external clients, and train junior staff members.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage multiple projects and lead design efforts, coordinating the work of junior engineers.
- Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, and proposals for clients and regulatory agencies.
- Oversee project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and scope definition.
- Mentor and direct staff on technical assignments, reviewing completed work.
- Engage with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies in a professional manner.
- Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors for material and service quotes.
- Conduct site inspections and manage construction administration (e.g., submittal reviews, RFIs).
- Ensure project compliance with specifications, codes, and permits.
Qualifications:
Please note: We are only considering candidates who are currently licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) and have relevant wastewater engineering design experience, including experience with wastewater treatment plants and/or pump stations.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE).
- Strong knowledge and understanding of wastewater treatment processes and equipment, hydraulics, piping systems, electromechanical systems, and instrumentation.
- Experience leading the design or portions of design.
- Experience working with and coordinating discipline work (civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation, HVAC, Geotech, survey, etc.) internally and externally.
- Proficient in using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with other teams and train junior staff to develop their skills and knowledge both in person and remotely.
- Operations experience is a plus.
