What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cashier/Store Keeper position at Natural Alternative Food Co-op?
Natural Alternative is a local, coop grocery store. There is a strong community of customers/members-owners. The work atmosphere is social and inviting.
The Storekeeper is responsible for registering sales and handling purchases. They provide a positive, customer experience with quality service and a positive demeanor. They greet, field questions and resolve customer-related issues. They maintain a full, fresh & clean storefront.
Store Functions
- Open and close store as scheduled, according to procedures.
- Be adept at the POS system for processing sales, price checks, refunds.
- Run the register. Check out customers, sell memberships, trail passes, gift certificates.
- Handle the till and credit processing.
- Reconcile the end-of-day sales and file daily reports.
- Coordinate with other employees so that there is always a primary cashier at any given time.
- Maintain operator license for alcohol sales.
Customer Service
- Greet customers as they walk in the door.
- Offer courtesy and professional service.
- Assist customers with questions. Be aware of customers who appear to be looking for something.
- Answer the phone and route information/questions to the appropriate person.
- Field product inquiry questions and take special orders to pass on to buyers.
Stocking/Cleaning
- Stock produce and pull back as necessary.
- Stock and face grocery shelves and bulk.
- Monitor and process out-of-date products.
- Enter spoilage and process markdowns on short-dated products.
- Maintain a clean store and façade.
- Receive and stock orders.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
