Position Summary
The 2nd Shift Lead will oversee daily operations in the Tool & Die CNC Machine Shop to ensure production goals, quality standards, and safety procedures are consistently met. This hands-on leadership role involves coordinating team activities, setting priorities, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining a productive workflow across machining, grinding, and toolmaking areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the activities of 2nd shift CNC machinists, toolmakers, and support staff.
- Set daily production priorities in alignment with department schedules and customer deadlines.
- Ensure all parts meet quality specifications and tolerances through routine checks and inspections.
- Train and mentor team members in machining techniques, setup procedures, and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and maintenance staff to resolve tooling or equipment issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, production reports, and quality records.
- Monitor inventory of raw materials, tooling, and consumables; report shortages or maintenance needs.
- Promote a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company and OSHA standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to efficiency, quality, and team performance.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
- 5 years of experience in CNC machining, tool and die making, or precision manufacturing.
- 2 years of leadership or lead experience in a machining environment.
- Strong understanding of CNC machine operations, G&M code, tooling setup, and blueprint reading.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) and interpret GD&T.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
