Environmental Assessment Services, LLC (EAS) is an established environmental services firm based in Richland, Washington. EAS is currently looking for an Archaeology Field Technician I. This is part-time, as-needed/on-call, 100% of travel required to conduct field work.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct archaeological survey, monitoring, and excavation in support of fieldwork for Phase I, II, and Ill studies performing pedestrian surveys, shovel tests, and test unit excavation under the supervision of a Field Director.
  • Adhere to project health and safety plan and participate in office and field training.
  • Use electronic and traditional navigational equipment (GPS, iPad/ArcCollector/Survey 123, compass, and transit) to orient yourself and perform fieldwork. Familiarity with ArcGIS Field Maps is preferred.
  • Photo-document artifacts, ecofacts, features, excavation units, land use, landscapes, unique environmental features, historic structures, archaeological sites, unique environmental features, and work in progress and record an accurate photo log.
  • Record accurate, organized, and clear field notes, maps, Munsell soil descriptions, drawings, logs, forms, tables, databases, artifact bags, box labels, and other project documentation.
  • Properly collect artifacts, ecofacts, and samples in accordance with the research design and keep an accurate field specimen log.
  • Complete project tasks and errands as directed by the Archaeologist, Senior Archaeologist, and/or other project leadership.
  • Ability to travel to and from various project locations to conduct field work, sometimes in inclement weather (including extreme heat and humidity), rugged terrain for extended periods of time.
  • Maintain and organize field equipment, supplies, vehicles, and work site.
  • Procure field equipment and supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related discipline.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 1 years’ experience in conducting archaeological fieldwork under supervision of a professional archaeologist
  • Must have completed an Archaeological Field School from an accredited Field School
  • Must be a US citizen and have the ability to obtain security clearance/badges
  • Must possess valid US driver’s license and good driving record
  • Position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment criminal record and driving background checks
  • Pre-employment drug testing and physical are required, as well as compliance with Corporate Drug-Free Workplace Program

Benefits:

  • Pay will vary depending on the location of the projects and will be discussed during the recruiting / hiring process. For upcoming Pacific Northwest work – the starting pay rate will be: $20.19 per hour, plus $5.09 per hour up to 40 hours a week in Health & Welfare dollars (per Service Contract Act guidelines).

The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required, often for extended periods, to walk, stand, bend, lift or sit in both indoor and outdoor environments with various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions. While on job sites, there will be manual labor including excavation with shovels, moving wheelbarrows filled with dirt, and extended pedestrian surveys. The employee might occasionally lift and/or move small or large objects up to 50 pounds or more. This role also routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles, prepare and analyze data, and work with Microsoft Office suite of software.
