Youth Leadership Communications Intern

About Native Sisters Circle
Native Sisters Circle is a tribal women-led organization committed to building pathways for Indigenous youth leadership, cultural wellness, and community empowerment. We create safe spaces for Native youth to heal, grow, organize, and lead through storytelling, cultural education, advocacy, and mentorship.
Position Summary
The Youth Leadership Intern will support Native Sisters Circle by creating digital content that uplifts our programs, events, and youth voice. This role includes social media content creation, event coordination support, and outreach responsibilities. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, responsible, and passionate about making a positive impact in Indigenous communities. This is a youth mentorship and leadership development opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media & Communications
- Create, schedule, and publish engaging content (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok)
- Design flyers and promotional materials using Canva
- Capture and edit event photos and videos
- Help maintain NSC’s online presence and message consistency
Outreach & Events
- Assist with planning and organizing NSC events and youth leadership activities
- Attend and table at community engagement events
- Support event logistics (placing food orders, preparing materials, vendor follow-up)
- Help create welcoming and culturally grounded spaces for youth and families
- Represent NSC professionally and model positive leadership
Teamwork & Administration
- Participate in a weekly check-in meeting with supervisor
- Communicate regularly with NSC staff and youth team
- Submit weekly timesheets and short progress logs
- Meet content deadlines and program responsibilities
Essential Requirements
- Must have reliable access to a phone, computer or laptop, and internet
- Must identify as Indigenous/Native youth (Tribal, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, First Nations, or descendant)
- Live in or near Sacramento County or surrounding areas
- Able to travel for local NSC events
- Able to attend mandatory intern onboarding and team meetings
Qualifications
- Ages 16–24
- Familiar with social media and content creation
- Basic Canva skills required; video editing skills a plus (CapCut, InShot)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
- Dependable, accountable, and willing to learn
- Interest in leadership, culture, or community work
Schedule & Stipend
- 10 hours per week with option for more hours
- Flexible schedule plus weekly check-in
- Occasional evenings/weekends for events
- $1,200/month stipend ($600 bi-weekly)
